Allthatisevil (48), alabaster, Alabama, USA Oct 6, 2007 Nice beer. Has a nutty scent with a hint a coffee. The tast is a nice caramelish taste (not to strong though) The beer has a nice light brown head when poored. The coffee aftertast is a little much but a good drinkable beer. Carlus12 (361), London, Greater London, England Oct 6, 2007 Bottle. Pours deep brown with beige head. Aroma is nutty, but not overpoweringly so. Caramel and some chocolate in the taste, with a strong coffee taste coming through. Carbonation is just right. This is a decent enough beer. BelgianBeerGal (1277), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Oct 1, 2007 50cl bottle. Pours a very deep brown, with a smallish tan head. Kind of an average brown ale with hints of nuts, some bitter, in the flavor. pet3rman (206), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 29, 2007 Dark amber pour. Malty aroma. medium tan head. sour nutty taste. finish is astringent. Overrated. markas101 (541), Fargo, North Dakota, USA Sep 28, 2007 33 cl bottle, Fargo. Deep amber color, malty sweet aroma, nutty slightly bitter taste, sticks in the back of your throat. Drinkable but there are more interesting options for the price here. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Sep 27, 2007 355 ml brown bottle, now available in Norway (Vinmonopolet). ABV is 5.0%. Chestnut coloured beer, large and lasting off-white head. Moderate aroma of hazelnuts, malts, caramel and chocolate. Malty flavour, moderately sweet with plenty of caramel, nutty finish with moderate hops. Nice enough, definitely better than Newcastle "Broon", but not really outstanding. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 26, 2007 Pours a deep mahogany brown with a brief but pleasant head and lasting lace. Very faint peanut-butter aroma, slightly sweet. Sweet malt with subtle anglo-hops and a nearly-warm nutty finish. Tastes a bit dusty. Good creamy body with excellent carbonation. What I found most remarkable about this beer is that it tastes very familiar - just like all the other Samuel Smith beers I’ve had. Must be the yeast, or perhaps a signature hopping schedule? I have had better brown ales, but I have no complaints. Average. goldbrew (99), USA Sep 21, 2007 Poured from bottle to dimpled mug. Rich flavor, not the best of its class. It’s an acceptable drink but I won’t make a special reach for it. Odd crooked mouthfeel. Flavors separated and worsened as beer warmed however. Coffee flavor a bit strong and astringent.
