hapjydeuce (763), Del Mar, California, USA Apr 13, 2007 cracked this one open watching the telly the other day. not much of an exciting aroma, pours dark reddish-brown. earthy flavor with tingly carbonation. flavor was mediocre, lots of caramel and a roasted nut finish. a pretty common beer, worth a try. MadIndian (987), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2007 Brown but clear pour with thin head. Caramel malt aroma and I think a hint of toffee and nuts. Flavor was mild caramel and a little thin but not a bad brew. Went down very easy. sspc (17), Texas, USA Apr 4, 2007 low aroma, ok palate, light nutty flavor but pretty well balanced. good bitterness, good finish. obguthr (986), Poquoson, Virginia, USA Mar 31, 2007 It had a nice brown pour with a thick light beige, creamy head that was short lived. The aroma was cereal and light citrus. It smelled much like a weiss beer. The taste was more chocolate than nut. The chocolate gave way to coffee very quickly. The Oatmeal Stout is much better, but this was fantastic. Grovlam (3790), Copenhagen, Denmark Mar 31, 2007 Bottle. As I open this one, the foam came flying out of the bottle. Thought it might be bad, but it actually taste quit well. Even do it was very alive when I open it, there was only a small white head. Colour was light brown. Aroma was caramel, nutty, fruit, wood, toasted. Light bodied with a soft carbonation. Flavour was sweet with light burned bitterness. Sweet finish. I liked this one. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Mar 30, 2007 Light Malt, and some lager-type yeast aromas. Dark reddish brown with a good tan head. Light palate is carbonated more than expected. Some weak malt flavor with light nutty tastes. A strange bitterness rounds out the bad experience. 17thfloor (1403), Chicago, Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2007 Updated: Dec 17, 2007Dark brown pour with large off-white head. Sour aroma of vinegar and nuts.
Toasted nutty/toffee flavor.. Bitter finish for a brown. Body is decent, smooth carbonation with just enough crisp for the style. CheersMate1 (770), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 24, 2007 Pours a dark red/brown color. Nice tan head, that faded away rather quick. The beer was surprisingly smooth, and even somewhat nutty. I know it is nut brown ale, but I did not expect it to capture a nut flavor, as it did. The beer wasn’t complex. After I tasted the slight nutty flavor, that was it, the flavors were lost. I rated this beer at a 3.1 due to the fact that Samuel Smith does offer some creamy and rather smooth beers. I wasn’t too impressed with this beer, as I was hoping it would have a variety of flavors.
