acearl (207), J-Town, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 22, 2007 Rated a little high but one of my ole time favorites, clear mahogany pour, frothy light tan head with excellent lacing, nutty through and through, from the roasted aroma to pronounced hazelnut tang, flattens quickly and leaves a bitter but clean after taste. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 19, 2007 Bottle... Poured a dark, reddish brown with a nice light brown head that had nice lacing throughout drinking the beer. Toffee-nut, malty aroma. Light carbonation on the palate, smooth flavors of malt, nut, almond, hazelnuts, toffee, low in hops and a fresh finish. A Quite unique, nutty brown ale. beisen (90), California, USA Mar 18, 2007 Pours brown with a little red. Aroma is mostly malt with some nut as well, which makes sense. Smooth mouthfeel and nice malty flavor. The finish was a little bitter for my taste. Overall a nice, very drinkable brew. alexsdad06 (1056), Ohio, USA Mar 18, 2007 Updated: Mar 21, 2007Pours lighter brown with hints of amber and a smallish creamy yellow head. Aroma is malts and hops with the slightest air of nuts. Taste is malty with some hazelnuts. I also get a weak coffee in the somewhat bitter finish. Samuel Smiths has other beers I would consider before this. From notes. Nickelmann (15), Denmark Mar 18, 2007 This wasn’t what I expected from this Brown Ale. It tasted more like a mixture of pure ethanol and water than any kind of hops ScoWRee (275), Phila, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 18, 2007 Pours brown redish hue with a thick tan foamy head. Aroma of roasted hazelnut. Tastes creamy, rich, malty, coffee, nutty and slight bitter finish. This is a very mice Ale.... LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 17, 2007 My second brown ale of the night. A light brown pour with a thin one finger head with no lacing. A hoppy malty aroma with not much else. Taste was toasted malt with a malty after taste. Not the best Sam Smith’s I’ve had. DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Mar 17, 2007 Walnut body with suberbly rocky yellowish suds that go the distance. Varnishy nutbowl snout. Creamily malty with a proper, grown-up bitter roastiness in the finish. Hints of metal and Marmite yeastiness. Luxurious and impressive.
