COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

A very good beer. I liked everything about this beer and can’t say anything bad. Full flavored. Nice head. Nice color. And not heavy. Just a nice ale with a bit of burnt malty bitterness.

Bottle: Chestnut brown pour with moderate translucency, creamy beige head on top. Aroma of caramel malts, nuts, woodchips, & a modest stale twinge somewhere in the back. Almost papery? Flavor is a bit sweeter up front, but the sweetness is quickly blunted by a dry caramel dust & nutty attack that sends you into an abrupt finish. Well attenuated, perhaps a little too well for the style. Nothing lingering in the finish. A hint of mid-palate earthy bitterness offsets the caramel malts. An okay brown ale at best; there are many others I would choose over this.

Pours clear medium to deep amber with one fat finger of light tan head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, moderate lacing. (4/5) Nose is toffee, raisins, nutty. (7/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter, slight tart. (7/10) Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, dry finish. (3/5) Pleasant, mildly fruity nut brown. A good example of the style. (14/20)

Bottle. Big off-white head with average retention. Reddish dark amber colour. Prune, toasted malt, toffee, dried fruits (raisin) and caramel aroma. Taste is roasty, dried fruits acidity and caramel tinge. Watery medium creamy mothful, medium carbonation and lasting fruity Aftertaste. Very good.

550ml bottle at princess Louise, holborn. Pours clear relatively light brown with a large off white head. aroma is nutty, malty, slightly burnt toast, toffee. It is quite a thin, watery beer but great tasting. Roasted malts, nuts and toast. Dry burnt toast finish.

Thats a well brewed ,greatly balanced brown ale of wich kind im not used to here in quebec. The complex nose of bourbon-ish woodness brings me some sweet subtle pear. A little thin in mouth but the subtle sweetness in mouth with light caramel and roasted malt bitterness carry on a long and great finale. Great.

Pian niska, nietrwała, szybko gaśnie do kożuszka, barwa brązowo-miedziana, klarowna. Wysycenie średnie do niskiego, pełnia niska. Obiecanych orzechów nie wyczułem. Angielski Nut Brown Ale niestety również nie zachwyca. Może jest dość pijalny, ale zdecydowanie zbyt wodnisty, cienki, zapach bardzo nikły, smak jednowymiarowy.

Old rating. Pours a medium brown with a beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Nice aromas of hazelnut, pecan, toffee and caramel. Taste is more of the same with a good bit of toasted malts. Mild nutty finish with a slight sour undertone. Great stuff.
