COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

A very good beer. I liked everything about this beer and can’t say anything bad. Full flavored. Nice head. Nice color. And not heavy. Just a nice ale with a bit of burnt malty bitterness.

Aroma of nuts, biscuity malt. Taste is malt forward, followed by a nice nutty finish. Very good!

550ml bottle from Mitchell’s Wines, Meadowhead - Superb clear red brown body, thick white head, lacing all the way. Very pretty. The smell was nutty and malty leading into a decent sugary note but not overbearing. The taste was sweet and nutty/malty leading into a decent rich malty aftertaste and dry finish. I expected a bit more from this, but it still puts a lot of others to shame.

Appearance is dark brown with ruby highlights and a thick off white head. Aroma is all malt, mostly caramel and toast. Taste is very malty, with a combination of caramel, toast, toffee, and bread. Sharp hop bitterness helps balance the high malt character. Mouthfeel is medium with a medium carbonation. Finishes dry on the palate with a crisp bitterness and slightly lingering malt. Overall, seemed very rich in malt as opposed to a lighter, slightly nutty character I was expecting

Bottle. Pours more red than brown. Nice white head. Malty aroma, maybe a little nutty note, but could be just a suggestion. Taste is also on malty way, some melanoidin is present too. Low carbonatedm

Bottle. Redbrown beer with a little light brown head. Boring odour with hints of caramel. Tastes equally boring and too bitter. Taste of nuts is hard to discover. Too bitter in the end.

Dark, rich, deep flavours with a nutty and bitter finish. Very drinkable. One of Sam Smith's better brews. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10

Brown with a tinge of red, little head. Medium body. Aroma of malt and strong tea, accompanied by over-ripe fruit in the taste. Nuttiness comes in mostly at the end. Very good.
