Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

Pours rich copper color into a dimpled mug with a light tan 1" head, decent retention. Caramel and malty smell with some nuttiness. Caramel and malts are tasted first with a nutty dry finish. Medium body with a slight bitterness. Lively amount of carbonation. Overall, great brown ale that i will continue to buy.

Marrom avermelhada, espuma bege de aspecto cremoso, boa formação e persistência. Aroma de frutas vermelho escuras, prevalescendo uvas passas, nozes. Paladar volta com a sensação de uva passa, dulçor leve/médio, baixo amargor torrado. Corpo leve um pouco abaixo do esperado, média carbonatação. Aftertaste mostra mais o malte e o torrado. Final levemente seco. Com mais tempo no copo, perde um pouco do aroma adocicado, ficando mais amarga e torrada.

I poured it from the bottle into a pint glass. The aroma is nutty, caramel, and toffee. The taste is caramel, dried fruit, toffee, and nutty. It’s smooth with a roasty finish. This is one of the best browns out there.

Aroma: caramel, bread aroma with a touch of grass; Appearance: reddish brown, clear, with pillowy head; Taste: sweet with bitter notes; a little twang of something; Palate: fairly full body with average carbonation with some lacing; long finish with unpleasant aftertaste; Overall: disappointing; could be partly the style and partly the execution; would not buy again.

Nutty, malty, not bready. Lightlly hopped, earthy. Pours a dark brown, softly carbonated. Fairly thin. A refreshing fall dinner beer.

Everything that you could want in a brown. This type of beer is quickly becoming one of my favorites, and with the very fair price of these, it could very well become one of my "go to" beers.
