Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

Tolle Farbe, schönes Braun. Cremefarbener Schaum.

It’s been a while since I last enjoyed a brown ale, then the joy is great at again having such a glass. This brown ale smells of caramel and some dried fruit. Taste-wise, it has a syrup sweetness that quickly followed up by hazel- and walnuts. Dried fruits such as raisins and figs carries it into a pleasant hoppy bitterness with dry aftertaste. Caramel malt lies in the background all the time and gives good fill. A delicate and brewed brown ale.

Nice dry nutty aroma, some bitter. Mellow body. Nice brown, tight persistent head. Just sweetish bready malts. Finish brief. Nothing big or clever just a really tasty drinkable nutty brown ale. Does what it says on the tin.

355ml bottle. Clear hazelnut brown color. Medium size, beige head, stays. Sweet, caramel in aroma. So simple aroma that there is almost no aroma at all. Twiggy, very mild hops grassy hops, slightly metallic and limestone in taste. It might be some aids left in me, but everything is so mild and hidden.

Amber brown Smells of prunes and nuts and, a bit of green weedy hops, a tiny bit of soy sauce Dry, mild bitterness and sourness. Caramel, prunes, and a bit of green weedy hop. Very good. Much easier to drink then I knew a brown ale could be.
