COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

We conducted a blind taste test with this beer and 5 other brown ales to objectively determine which one was best. The 5 beers were: Samuel Smith’s Nut Brown Ale, Lost Coast Downtown Brown, Big Sky Moose Drool, Newcastle Brown, and Wychwood Hobgoblin. You can view the video here: http://youtu.be/oz0hSSylY70

500ml bottle. Brown amber colour, white foam head leaving lots of lacing and aroma of malt, nutty, caramel. Taste is bready malt, toffee, caramel, dried fruits, raisins, and some earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft to medium carbonation, dry nutty bitter finish. Quite drinkable.

Dark red Amber with plenty of carbonation and a thin head with some lacing when poured into a pint glass from a bottle. Very nutty taste comma slightly bitter, and a lingering bitter aftertaste. Some notes of coffee.

Bella brown ale, tonaca di frate con poca schiuma, aroma fantastico di nocciola, invece al palato spicca meno.

Good Brown Ale as a nice change to zingy Golden Ales or bitter Bitters, saucy. Very good with crisps and nuts, better at home with pie and chips. prefer it to Newcastle Brown ale, not as heavy. Not necessarily a winter only drink but not a light summer night session brew.
