Brewed at Samuel Smith’s small, traditional British brewery with well water (the original well sunk in 1758 is still in use), best barley malt, roasted barley, yeast and aromatic hops. Nut Brown Ale is relatively dry with a rich amber-brown colour and nutty flavour derived exclusively from small amounts of dark malt. Brown ales are a specialty of northern England. Fermented in ’stone Yorkshire squares’.

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a rich medium to dark brown with a translucent red hue and had an average sized (1-2 finger) light brown foamy head that had decent retention and produced some nice lacing. The aroma was that of a roasted caramel malt and a leathery yeast with notes of coffee, dark chocolate and molasses. It tasted very malty and mildly sweet with a hint of chocolate at first and finished with a slightly bitter coffee flavor that stayed with you for a nice long while after the swallow. Its mouthfeel was tremendous, smooth and creamy in texture and a solid medium in body with a very soft carbonation. Overall a superb Nut Brown ale, one of the best I have ever tried. But then again most brews from this brewer are just awesome!!

Bottle from The Vineyard. Clear brown, thin off white head. Nutty brown malt nose. Lovely flavour, loads of hazelnuts, touches of coffee, some fruity bitterness from the hops. Decent body, fairly high carbonation, complex finish. Really beautiful.

Drinkable, but not one of my favorite from the wonderful selection from Samuel Smith's wonderful brewery. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A malty and quite sweet aroma. Smooth and quite rich texture. Full flavoured with a nice balance of sweet versus dry.

Pours reddish brown with a foamy tan head that lingers long. Nose is a bit like raisins with a hint of caramel. Taste is on the dry side with a touch of bitterness. Not particularly appealing to me. Medium body. Vigorous carbonation. Nice brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle by a friend. Aroma fruity, dark fruits, also caramel . Clear amber to brown colour. Taste is mostly bitter, lightly metallic, otherwise light roasted malt and some mild grassy hoppiness. Thin bodied. Overall average beer.

Reddy brown appearance. Shines like a ruby. Clean tasting with a hoppy hit. A little fizzy. Strong fruity aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

rra marrone, color mattone, schiuma a frana grossa beige, persistente e compatta. Aroma di caramello, toffee, un po’ di cioccolata. Cioccolata fondente, caramello, tanto tofee, polvere di cacao. Finale amaro e astringente. Carbonatazione media, buona struttura. Consistenza media, ottimo equilibrio. Corpo rotondo. Ottima birra

Pours a nut brown (?) with a just off white that sticks around. Aroma opens up a little after the head bubbles down: caramel, floral, dough, and some vanilla. Taste is very well balanced but nods a little heavy towards bitter/sour. Palate is fairly clean with some sticky bitter. Good brew. Would drink again. Would not buy again.

Beautiful amber brown color. Hints of roasted nuts. Full bodied but drinkable. Very good beer and a nice switch from the pale ales and IPA’s I normally drink.

550ml bottle. Aug 14. Pours a reddy, amber-brown colour with a dense light tan head which lasted well and left some nice lacing. Aroma of sweet butterscotch and nuttiness. Medium sweetness and an underlying medium bitterness. Creamy, smooth body with a surprisingly thin body. Bitter, almost dry finish. Plenty of interesting things going on here but not really my cup of tea (or glass of beer).
