Deep brown/black with gorgeous ruby flashes when held up to the light, and a soft mocha head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, sweeted coffee and roasted oats. Silky, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet chocolate malted flavour, with a perfectly balanced bitterness in the finish. Mmmmmmm!

This beer pours almost black, with a bit of red around the edges. Aroma of toasted malt assaults the nose. I taste toasted malt and oatmeal (of course), in addition to an almost berry-like sweetness, towards the finish. I enjoyed this very much, and can see myself drinking it after a nice cook-out, beside the pool, with a good cigar.

This beer was good. Especially with desert. Satiny, creamy choclate taste. Pours thick. Yummy.

Very dark with a fairly dark tan head. Perfect blend of toffee, chocolate, and roasted malt. Silky mouthfeel. Good stuff.

The bottle I'm drinking now is a little skunky, but I've had this before and will again -- one of my favorite beers that is easily accessible in my neck of the woods. Dark -- very dark brownish red, thick head, nice lacing, sweet chocolatey aroma and flavor that has a nice, smooth finish. Almost a little too sweet, though, but no complaining here.

Not much aroma noticed. Dark brown/red in color. Poured a very nice tan head and left a beautiful lacing on the glass. Had a very sweet and toasty malt flavor wiht a nice chocolate finish. I really didn't find this beer as enjoyable as I was lead to believe. Overall not bad.

Comparable in quality to Anderson Valley's Barney Flats, Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout in nevertheless quite different in both its bouquet and flavor. Not as smooth and a little more roasty, a worthy Oatmeal stout nonetheless. I will say more after a side-by-side with Anderson Valley's Barney Flats and Hoptown's Oatmeal Breakfast

Aghast at my sheer ignorance, I was surprised to find, recently, that I had not rated one of the quintessential "stages" of a ratebeerian's evolution. Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout. The natural progression of Budweiser to Guinness is furthered for many a beer fan by the wide availability and quality of this oatmeal stout. While its relatively thin body and "safe" flavor may leave the advanced connoisseur a bit wanting, I am still satisfied by this creamy brew. Pours dark brown with a nice, dense tan head (much like Mackeson XXX). Aroma is roasted, sweet, and a bit chocolatey. Flavor is succulent, smooth, creamy, and surprisingly sweet, consisting of toasted malts, malt sugars, and a note of chocolate. In my opinion a better brew than their Imperial Stout. A return from more venturesome territory proves pleasant.

Black, opaque color. I thought the bottle was brown (it's clear). Roasty coffee-chocolate flavors, sweet but subtle and nothing overpowering here. Exceptionally smooth and creamy. One of my favorites.
