COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800ís, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

In general, Iím not much of a stout drinker. This oneís better than your average stout though. Itís sweet and goes down smooth with no bad bite that Iíve experienced with other stouts. Not something Iíll frequent because of the style and the cost, but I certainly understan why people like it so much.

Quite possibly my favorite beer ever. Beautiful dark appearnce that brought a a tear to my eye, nice rich aroma. There description of a ísilky textureí is right on. It does as an earlier rater alluded to, lose its head too fast, but thats the only real flaw I can find in this beer.

Heard plenty of great things about this beer was really great going down but the aftertaste was pretty crappy.

Itís good, not great. Sam Smithís gets some points for being available damn near everywhere also. Imperial Stout has a bit more flavor and some kick that this is lacking.

This is definitely a great beer, but just a bit too filling for my taste. One is about all I can handle. Dark and comples, but I feel what it lacks is some kick: Iíd prefer a little more alcohol in something this soupy.

Nice and dark, the best oatmeal stout I have ever had.

Very dark, deep ruby when held to the light. Pleasant sweetish aroma. Sweet complex taste with a clear oatmeal flavor in it. Finishes off with slight bitterness. A very enjoyable beer.

Wonderfully sweet and dark, this stout is one of the best Iíve tasted. Much sweeter than something like Guiness...one of my faves
