COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800ís, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

The more I drink this the more boring it gets. Thereís nothing wrong with it and it does have a nice texture. I donít think thereís a lot to it.

re-rating - 1st bootle was skunky and I had to pour it down the drain (@#&$%clear bottles), but if you get it fresh it is wonderful, one of my favorites - inviting aroma, smooth, malty sweet, but not cloying, enough bitter for balance

iím drinking this at a far cry from ice cold and im very impressed. very big body lots of coffe and bittersweet chocolate flavors and you can just tase the oatmeal which smooths everything out.

Itís quite interesting to use oatmeal in beer. Sweet and very creamy.

This is my first oatmeal stout, and I donít think I was prepared for the strong sweet taste. The flavor is complex, and seemed to give hints of a winelike character. For these reasons, I couldnít refuse giving it high marks even if I didnít care for it. Will try again sometime.

A very tasty stout that keeps you wanting more. Very smooth and delishious. Excellent with a nice steak and baked potato on a warm summer evening. Strong flavor with a foamy smooth head. I really like this stout.

I couldnít believe it was in a clear bottle After I poured it. A nice thick head sweet coffee smell.

Dark brown in color. Pours with large, tightly carbonated head - dark tan in color. Average-size nose with straightforward notes of roasted coffee and sweet malt. Crisp and medium/light palate. Flavors are not huge, but substantial - light coffee, dark but sweet chocolate.

Not a powerhouse brew, but solid quality and flavors.

This was the first Stout I had ever drank. Guess I started out the best. Caramel and nut flavors and very creamy. YUM!

UPDATED: FEB 4, 2003 WOW!!!Dark, mahogany appearace with complex, vinous, aromas of oats, stone, iron, nuts, and HUGE roastiness. The silky looking body has a head worth putting on a mantle. The flavors match the aromas perfectly, and are just as complex.Oily, resiny, palate with a semi-dry finish.Finish loses dryness and gains caramelly, nutty, goodness. What could be better than this,as far as style?
