Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

55cl. Aroma is rich with roasted chocolate malt--lightly sweet and deep with very mild hop aromas. Caramel head quickly swallowed by the beer. Pleasantly sweet with a balanced bittern finish. It’s a bit viscous and has a very even and pleasing mouth feel. I don’t want it to end.

Black in color with a medium sized light brown head. The aroma is of oats, chocoalte and alcohol. The flavor is suprisingly sweet for a stout, with notes of coffee, oats and chocolate. The palate is creamy. Overall I’d say its a very good stout. The english sure know how to make a good beer...I’M A FAN!

Pours black (obviously) with a tan head that settles quickly. Aroma is of wood smoked malt, fruit, coffee, licorice, and brown sugar. Taste is of sweet chocolate malt, a little hop tang followed by a silky oatmeal finish. Wow! This is amazing. Paired with some raw oysters and clams my wife brought home - I was in heaven!

sweet and roasty oat(y) aroma - nice off-white head with great lacing. Poured a dark dark amber allowing little light thru.. just enough to see the amber tint. Very smooth and creamy palate and flavor. Nice oatmeal flavor with a dry finish - very nice thick palate. Flavor is very nice and I think better than many of the Oatmeal Stouts that I have tried. I think I like the Bells Kalamazoo better but this is very good. Cheers.

Very mild roasted grainaroma with almost no coffee to speak of. Esters low at best and very little hop aroma. Overall this beer really lacks in aroma all together.Closer to medium brown than black and somewhat thick.Started off with a 1.5 inch head that lasted about 3 minutes, then finished to an 1/8 inch. Sweet yes, all be it closer to heavy versus medium. Definite oat with dark roasted grain along with a nutty flavor that compliments well. Diacetyl level closer to medium high with toffee flvor and slickness that does not take away from the beer. Very little hop flavoer if any. Full body, very smooth and creamy. Very sweet upfront, oats and slight toffee taste. It finishes dry and clean with a wonderful aftertaste. I drank this close to room tempature and the carbonation was medium.I feel that for the most part this beer fits its style catagory closely and it makes for a great beer. I will drink it again for sure and foer many reasons. It tastes amazing, low in alchohol for the flavor and very drinkable. This could be a session beer for a regular RIS drinker.

Pours thick like maple syrup, very dark black colour. Tan, almost oatmeal coloured head. The nose has cloves, and brown sugar. Taste is great, it has molasses, brown sugar and a subtle oat meal finish. The mouth feel is very velvety and just glides down your throat.
