COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

550 ml bottle. Aroma a little sweet with slight caramel, a little earthy slight coffee from the roast. Appearance jet black with a medium creamy tan head that hangs on for a while. Well balanced sweetness up front that dries out just enough in the finish. Some chocolate notes. Slight bit of fruit in the after taste. Mouthfeel is full and silky. A very pleasurable beer that is easy drink several pints of.

12 oz. bottle from Jane’s Beer Store. Pours a very dark, ruby brown with a dense tan head. Subtle aroma of dark malts, coffee, molasses and sherry. Rich, creamy taste gives way to a surprisingly semi-dry finish, like dark chocolate. Light to medium body and "silky texture". Kudos for an extremely smooth and easy drinking stout. These guys obviously know what they are doing.

550ml bottle at Beer Station, Xiamen. Pours black with a thin off white head. Aroma of chocolate. Medium bitter finish. Not as good as I remember it from before, maybe a little too cold.

This is easily one of the best oatmeal stouts I have had in some time. Silky smooth and not too dry, it finishes perfectly. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Very dark, chestnut brown. Thin, sticky, tan head. Chocolate. Caramel. Some bonfire toffee. Heavy on the sweet. Light on the roast. Taste is dry, and a little bitter. A bit of sweet wriggles in. Palate is a little watery. Finishes dry, with a tang of tartness.
