Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

A very drinkable stout. Quite smooth and balanced. Easily quaffable and actually quite refreshing. Barely any aroma to speak of which is normal for this type of beer. Flavors are roasted malt predominately with hints Of chocolate. Body is not as full as other oatmeal stouts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nice and roasty with a fine bitter finish. Delicious nose with some licorice Lacking in body a bit but the oatmeal helps. Solid.

Bottiglia. Colore nero, schiuma compatta. Non sono amante delle stout e questa birra non mi aiuta. Nel sapore é molto leggera. Sento poco la presenza dei malti tostati e il loro retrogusto amaro.

Taste of oats and sam smith base stout. Very smooth due to the low ABV. Color is black with a tan head. One of my favorite beers.

This is a VERY good oatmeal stout. Very rich and smooth. Notes of coffee and chocolate. Smooth on the palate with a creamy texture. Dark opaque color with a caramel head. Awesome.

355ml bottle. Very dark brown color. Small size, brown head, stays. Mild brownies, oatmeal, chocolate, bit rusty notes in aroma. Strong oatmeal, mild chocolate, sweet taste. Oatmeal everywhere. Oatmeal does what it supposed to do. Mellows and smoothens the beer. Very oatmealy brew.

Bottle. With that label it looks like a medicine bottle from late 19th century. Dark body, medium to small beige head. Rich milky and roasty aroma with some light coffee and notes of oat cookies. Sweet roasty taste, very smooth and pleasant. Doesn’t ever become overbearing, almost infinitely drinkable. A classic oatmeal stout and for a good reason.

Opaque black, brownish head. Smells like chocolate and dates. Off-dry, mild to medium bitterness, full creamy body some sourness. Tastes like milk chocolate, wet stone, dried fruit, and herbal hops. Very good. Samuel Smith makes really enjoyable and drinkable medium abv dark beers.

0,355L bottle. Pours dark brown with light brown head. The head stays. Aroma is roast, fruits, malt, sour notes. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, raisins, apples, dark chocolate. Finish is dry bitter. Overall: very enjoyable brew. For some odd reason English can make nice flavorful lower ABV brews and others (mostly) can’t.

I poured it from the bottle into a glass. It pours a dark brown to black color with a big and fluffy tan head and lacing. The aroma is dried fruit, licorice, coffee, and burnt sugar. The taste is dried fruit and licorice up front with sugary milk, roasted coffee, and some chocolate on the back end. The palate is nice and creamy with just the right amount of carbonation. This is a classic.

From the bottle. Pours dark pitch black with firm beige head. Nose of sweet raisin like a Dessert wine. Sim alcohol taste is sweet and not much bitterness. Dryed fruit and rosted malts. Sweet liqurice aftertaste. Awesome oatmeal stout...
