Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800ís, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Black with a faint red tint and a lasting microbubble tan head. Fruity, roasted malt with dark chocolate that encourages me to drink. Medium smooth body, slightly grainy from the carbonation. Soft bitter roasted barley, oats, milk, with coffee elements. Light lingering acidness. Not as good as I hoped but decent.

Should be The Standard by Which All Others are Judged..... Oatmeal stouts, that is. But.... not really any kind of a consensus that I can see on this site? There is nothing at all wrong with this beer.... the reason I didnt rate it higher is b/c it could be amped up a lot & made much richer, except thats not what an English Gentlemans brewery would be doing, would it now?

Bottle from cellarbrations super store in Hami hill. Pours pitch black with a thin tan head. Body is medium with low carbonation. Are is subtle with sultanas, chocolate, coffee and roasted nuts. Taste is much the same although the subtly of flavours in the aroma has become more robust. Taste is sweet chocolate and mild vanilla with subtle roasted coffee beans. Finish is quite bitter and lingering. Such a great, simple, easy drinking stout

Butelka, warka do stycznia 2016. Ladna, powoli opadajaca, drobna, kremowa pianka, malo brudzaca szklo, przejrzyste, brazowe, dosc ciemne.

Deep brown, flashes of mahogany, very subtle tan head. Smells strongly of light, sweet vanilla and brown sugar. Light tobacco. Tastes of a slight earthy bitterness, quite sweet though remarkably balanced. Longer finish that dries out significantly. Very creamy, medium heavy body, very little alcohol. Excellent beer.

I am suprised to see this is only 5%. It seems thicker and stronger than that. This was actually one of the first non-swill beers I started drinking, which got me looking into microbrews and expanding my knowledge of imports.....sampling new beers, learning about brewing, etc. Has a dark appearance with decent tan-mocha head. Tastes of malts and oats.......sweet and nutty. Could be one of the best Oatmeal Stouts out there.

Had a run in with my first American ímilk stoutí recently and found it too sweet and cloying, but Iíve gotten back on that horse and tried this one from the same category, and Iím much happier. This is a full flavored but somewhat thin bodied stout which is not noticeably sweet and has a mildly bitter finish. The oats do the trick here in a fine, subtle brew.
