COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Black with a faint red tint and a lasting microbubble tan head. Fruity, roasted malt with dark chocolate that encourages me to drink. Medium smooth body, slightly grainy from the carbonation. Soft bitter roasted barley, oats, milk, with coffee elements. Light lingering acidness. Not as good as I hoped but decent.

Bottle from Plonk. Sweet, very mild roastiness, more astringency, a hint of choc, fairly dry finish. Medium carb, full mouthfeel. Great oatmeal stout - lovely.

I will keep it short on this one and say this is a mighty fine beer to enjoy carefully, or just to drink. Are there more complex oatmeal stouts? Sure. Aroma is weak and its not the perfect pour (from bottle) but it’s smooth, tastes great, and needs no excuses.

Deep reddish brown body with a light brown a foamy head. Aroma is sweet with notes of chocolate and oats. Taste is sweet and smooth with oats and a slight hint of chocolate. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

550ml bottle into pint glass (room temperature). Nose is milk chocolate with slight acid. Not quite opague, slightly ruby. Small white head. Full-bodied with creamy texture. There’s a beautiful sweet note in the taste that is always English to me. Finish is a low-level lingering chocolate with a touch of lactic acid. . Great beer from a great brewery.

Bottle from Drinkshop. Aroma dried fruits, roasted, light solventy alcohols. Very dark brown colour, head disappearing pretty quickly. Taste again shows dried fruits, dark roasted malt character. That is about all. The beer is rather dry, almost no sweetness to speak of. Rather easily drinkable. Quite well balanced, good beer.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Opaque reddish-black beer with a head which pours thick but soon dissipates. Light, chocolatey malt aroma. Flavour is chocolate, malt and fruit. It’s smooth, rich and almost creamy. It’s a fairly standard stout but it’s a brilliant example of the type. Lovely.

500ml bottle. Deep black with a thick off white head. Creamy aroma, with some dried fruit coming through. Taste is soft and creamy, sweet with hints of dark chocolate and coffee. Not spectacular, but a very nice stout
