COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

SMOOTH dark beer. Clean flavor. This is the best oatmeal stout I’ve encountered. Surprisingly easy to drink. Perfect carbonation.

A dark color with a two finger tan head. Aroma is toasted malt, some chocolate and oatmeal. Taste is roasted malt and oatmeal. A would have like it even more if alcohol was not present. I might have had a bad bottle. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Barwa: ciemnobrunatna, klarowna. Piana: obfita, beżowa, drobnopęcherzykowa, dość trwała. Zapach: dominują aromaty palonych słodów, gorzka czekolada, kawa, wyczuwalne również melanoidyny, nuty przypieczonego ciasta, w tle suszona śliwka oraz delikatna wędzonka. Smak: ogólnie dość smukłe, dominują ciemne i palone słody, na pierwszym planie melanoidyny, na drugim delikatna kawa, palona goryczka oraz delikatna kwaskowość od palonych słodów. Wysycenie: średnie. Uwagi: piwo bardziej pasuje na porter, zdecydowanie brakuje paloności.

UPDATED: FEB 27, 2015 Bottle. Pours black with a thick, creamy mocha head. Aroma of roasted malt, milk chocolate, oatmeal, dark fruits and roasted nuts. Taste of roasted malt, oatmeal, milk chocolate, caramel and dark fruits. Smooth, creamy texture and full bodied. A roasted, chocolatey finish. A really nice, rich stout.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2015 355 ml bottle. Appearance is black, opaque. Aroma is roasted black malt, pressed coffee. Bitter chocolate. Taste is chocolate malts, roasted coffee. Palate is moderate carbonization. I wanted to like it more but I rated what I felt.

Pours dark with some bloody reflections and beige medium head. Fine lacing. At first, unusual but pleasant aroma of yeasts and fresh bread, then, while the drink heats up, milked chocolate, toffee, lightly roasted scents . In taste it goes through light sweetness into sweet & slightly bitter finish. A light and nice salty note appears somewhere in the middle (or maybe it is that silky feel?). Medium bodied. I really would call it silky instead of creamy, a very pleasant mouthfeel. Medium-bodied. Smooth and enjoyable.Overall, it tastes very nutritional like a good meal. Oatmeal :)

Bottle from vino but first tasted back in Philly in 2001. Dark dark brown, beige head. Chocolate and coffee nose, fruity. I've always found it a little over carbonated, but really balanced bitterness. Classic.

First sampled in 1982. Pours a nearly opaque clear dark brown/garnet with a huge light tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and a pleasant sourness. Taste is sweet dark roasted malt, blackstrap molasses, coffee, grain and a mild bitterness brought on by the roasting. A classic.

Douberd (2814) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - FEB 3, 2015
(Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 5% Pours an almost totally black beer, with a tall and thick light beige head on top. Very good foam retention, heavy lacing left behind as it collapses. Nice aroma, red stewed fruits, dark fruits too, prunes. Great taste with chocolate and plenty of it, raisins, sweet caramel and red fruits, light roasted malts on the finish. Medium body, carbonation a bit low but it fits quite well, slightly dry palate. Very good.
