COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2005 The first time I rate this, I was knocked over. I thought I had just purchaced an average english stout, I was new! Little did I know this would grow to be an easy to get favorite. Average brown-white (not really tan) head over nearly opaque ale. There is a very fresh scent in the dark beauty, like fresh fruit or something. Has that same hard water taste, a little too much but I guess that makes that palate. Mouthfeel is so smooth. Leaves good lacing. I’ll continue to come back to this one.

Prima easy Oatmeal Stout.

Very dark brown. Rich malty aroma with roasted barley and a bit of soy. Moderately full malty flavour, and a lightly sweet taste with a dry and bitter finish. Medium body, and a somewhat watery mouthfeel - what happened to the oats? Overall, a decent but disappointing oatmeal stout. Great aroma, but I find it lacking in taste and body, and it is far from the quality of Samuel Smith’s chocolate and imperial stouts.

Opaque black, average off-white head is pretty dense and shows nice persistence and lacing. Aroma of light roasted malts, milk coffee and red fruits. Good enough intensity. Taste starts slightly on the sweet side with a balanced bittersweet and moderately dry finish: roasted malts, milk coffee, cola, red fruits. Medium body with low crispness, silky and delicate but still quite creamy mouthfeel. Very good

From 500ml bottle. Pours dark, almost black with latte coloured head dissipating to lacing. Aroma was a bit metallic and acidic. Bittersweet taste with oat and roasted flavour. Must admit to being a bit disappointed with this one. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Out of the bottle, poured a very deep brown, with a pillowy tan, persistent head. I got notes of ground coffee, chocolate, wafer, sweet roasted malt, cola, and raisin. Palate was silky smooth with very little carbonation and a medium-dry finish. I enjoyed it.
