COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

UPDATED: JAN 2, 2006 Beautiful color and creamy head. Roasted coffee and fig(?) hints in the nose. Very rich texture to the tongue and a very nice blend of chocolate, malt, maple hints. A terrific oatmeal stout.

Strong oatmeal and yeast aroma. Black color with tan head. Looking stouty. Taste sweet! Nutty vanilla and raisin taste. Pretty damn smooth.

As anyone can tell by my high rating numbers for this beer, I really am a fan of Smith's Oatmeal Stout. The number one seller for me is the richness of its taste. I really enjoy its full mouthful, and that coupled with a caramel, chocolate, and coffee-like flavor, makes me happy when I pour a glass of this into my favorite mug. The head is full, and the latticework is enticing. Darn good beer! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The head is medium, the body darkbrown, almost black. It smells roasty, oatmeal, darkmalty. The taste is darkmalty, roasty, oat. 12/12/11/11/12/11

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Has an odd aroma to it, there is the normal roast and chocolate but also has a little bit of a funky note as well. Medium mouthfeel. Smooth is how I would describe this beer, both is feel and taste. Slightly sweet with a touch of roast bitterness. Pretty tasty.

When I poured this beer the inside of my glass became completely covered with tiny bubbles. It came out black with a frothy brown head that gradually fades. Aroma of rich dark malt and roasted oats. It isn’t as rich or heavy as you would expect from it’s appearance but still has a dark malt and oat flavor. It’s somewhat bitter like black coffee. It’s fizziness causes a light sting on my tongue and lips.

Poured from 550ml bottle. Huge fluffy tan head. Smells of bread, molasses, raisin, vanilla and alcohol. Black pour with dark brown at the edges when held to light. Smooth, full, creamy and silky on the tongue. Hint of sour, bittersweet, slightest touch of salt. Carbonation is very soft, bordering on flat. Long sweet finish. A fine stout.

My favorite beer overall! The aroma wets the palate, for the taste that melts you in your seat. It has a smooth finish. Good frothy head, and for looks its a pint with a gold top ;) 5 Stars
