Very opaque chocolate brown color with a creamyish tan head. Nose is cocoa and bitter chocolate malts, slightly clean and astringent. Maybe a little wood and nut in there. Cereal grains and more woody chocolate in the mouth. Refuses to be a heavy viscosity beer like the Lion but is more than medium in mouthfeel for sure. Amazing to me that the Brits brew these over-the-top beers and keep them around 5% consistently. Way to go Samuel Smiths!.

550ml bottle at home. Pours dark, dark brown, near black but not quite with a thick, long-lasting tan head & nice lacing. It’s a looker! Aromas are more subtle, but chocolate and treacle are there. Taste brings it all out in the open, treacle, liquorice, roasted coffee, dark chocolate. Medium body, creamy texture and a long finish. Really enjoyed this.

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Obviously, this is a classic. Dark (dark brown/almost black), with a decent head. Taste of chocolate, oatmeal and coffee. Sweeter than an Irish style stout.

Zapach dość delikatny, słodowy, z nutą cukru, a nawet cukru trzcinowego i karmelu.

Poured from a 12OZ bottle and no head at all. The color is a very dark brown, I smell roasted malts, cooked brown sugar, some coffee and some caramel. I taste all of the same, very smooth and good.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a dark mahogany with an effervescent head which dissipates quickly. Aroma is wonderful, fragrant burnt sugars with a spicy hop aroma as well. Body is a tad light for the style, but a lovely flavor of raisins and berries followed by a mild but insistent bitterness on the back side. One of the best.

First oatmeal stout of the season pours deep & dark with a fluffy one finger cap. Taste is short & sweet; starts off silky & fades with a slight brown sugar burn.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dark brown colour with medium beige head. Medium intensive aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, full of chocolate and coffee notes. Nice smooth texture. Finish is slightly dry. Low carbonation. Fantastic example of stout.

One of the most reviewed/rated beers on the internet (RB & BA): I hadn’t had one since the mid 90’s while working in Alaska and thought I’d better treat myself to a bottle again.
This bottle (550ml) was bought at ’Beers of Europe’ and poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard during November 13.
Deep, dark brown body, leaning towards black unless held to a light source: on top a large tanned blanket of foam.
Lots going on in the aroma (and taste): dark chocolate bar with fruit and nuts, coffee, liquorice and caramel notes appeared in the nose and mouth.
This is a well made, complex brew that excites the taste buds and nasal sences: I can see why it’s so popular.
The body is fairly smooth and slips down far too easily: a very nice beer in deed.

Very nice stout. Tatse is a nice semi-sweet matly oatmeal with a hint of chocolate. Nice bitter finish.
