Commercial Description:
Originally a drink for lactating mothers, oatmeal stout was described as nutritional on early labels. Oats are in the same family as barley, and a small addition yields great flavor. Popular in the late 1800’s, the last oatmeal stout was brewed before the First World War until Samuel Smith reintroduced this style in 1980.

Almost opaque, with an unusually silky texture and complex, medium-dry velvet palate. Bittersweet finish.

Hmm surprised at how good the reviews are at this site for this beer. I thought it was a little better than average. It could be that it wa served to me too cold, so I may change this review later. I felt that this beer did not have that much aroma or flavor compared to other stouts.

Very smooth, smells like roasted malts, nuts, chocolate.... The body is silky and the taste is sweet and chocolatey. Almost too creamy for me, the bottle size is too big for me to take in, better to share with a friend the next time.

Oh .... yeah. Dark pour, soft but brilliant aroma, silky feel in the mouth. Creamy body. Complex series of flavors. Lovely aftertaste. Gimme more.

Bottle->plastic cup (all we had): Pours a large, rocky, off-white head that exhibits good lacing atop a black body. Aroma is of cereal, lemon, and horse blanket and a metallic aroma. The body is medium, the texture is thin, carbonation is fizzy, and the finish is metallic. The flavor’s duration is short, it is mildly sweet, lightly acidic and finishes like sour milk.

Poured a reddish black color with large head. Aroma is sweet like bakers chocolate and oats. Taste is smooth at first and leaves you with a slightly bitter tongue. Overall an excellent Stout and easy to drink.
