Aroma was apparent from the second I opened the bottle. It’s a tiny bit nutty, with a faint hint of spicy and citrusy hops. Flavour is surprisingly faint. There is some hop flavour, but it’s pretty smooth, and mostly just bitterness. As it warms up, it’s a bit piney. There is a bit of malt backing, but not a whole lot, and it’s pretty sweet malts, not really dark tasting. It’s pretty creamy, and the carbonation is pretty much bang on to style. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 26, 2008 Clear amber orange with big foamy white head that thins quickly. Faint nutty earthy hoppy aroma. Surprisingly bubbly, creamy nutty apple hoppy taste. Not bitter enough to be an ESB, Pale is more like it. Similiar to the Bass Ale. wilderthanyou (414), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Pours an amber orange with foamy off white head, low retention. Aroma is nutty with a malty butterscotch base. Flavour is a pretty tasty reflection of the aroma, sweet malty butterscotch, with a dry nutty middle and a lightly bitter finish. All and all a pretty tasty beer. PJClarke (620), London, Greater London, England
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 20, 2008 Dark brown but clear as a bell with a thin little off white head which clings to the glass wonderfully. Deep caramelly aromas along the lines of burnt sugar, infact i’d quite happily go with Toffee Apples. Thick and silky on the tongue with deep complex flavours. Easy drinking with definite rosy apple flavour again with toffee of a dark nature. Very thick, very roasty, delicious. Seems old-worldy almost.
Become a little sickly after a while, very heavy on the palate. The size of the bottle may not be the best match for this complex, intense beer. gringo332 (238), Richardson, Texas, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 18, 2008 What a great sessionable beer. It pours an amber brown color with a slight off-white head. Smells like biscuity UK malt with toffee, caramel, bread, and some hops. Flavor is earthy, bready, biscuity, and a slight sweetness. It finishes with pieces of malt and toffee. joekinty (263), rockledge, Florida, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Oct 22, 2008 Updated: Oct 23, 2008550mL bottle from my LCBO gift pack, served in my brand-spanking new Sam Smith’s tumbler that came with a pack of 3 beers. This one pours a beautiful copper-amber with a large tan head. Aroma is just great, perfect toffee malts with a hint of caramel, and maybe even a hint of roasty barley. Flavour doesn’t disappoint with an awesome malt body to it, toffee, caramel, and a mildly bitter hop bite in the finish. Somewhat earthy, and oh-so-smooth feeling. Very well balanced. A touch of dry astringency in the aftertaste is matched so well with the abundant malty sweetness. This beer is fairly simple, just incredibly well made and tasty!
