illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Mar 15, 2008 Crystal clear amber color with a big thick head. Retention is insane, with a half-inch cap lasting the duration. Leaves lots of sticky lacing. Aroma is a bit typical, with sweet maltiness and mild fruitiness. Flavor is mostly toffee and caramel, maybe some diacetyl. Hops are all but undetectable. A little tannic bitterness comes out in the finish. Dry, and smooth with a medium-light body. Really easy to drink, but not really as robust as I like my pales. MtStateBeer (74), Hurricane, West Virginia, USA Mar 15, 2008 Updated: Mar 27, 2008355 ml. bottle. Pours amber with small off-white head. Initial smell was not very good. Taste was a little better, bitter, malty, a little hoppy. Medium body and a slight metallic finish. SoBloHero (56), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 14, 2008 Darker than most beers that deem themselves pale ales, but a good amber color. It wasnt as hoppy as I like a pale ale to be. But a good smooth finish that was enjoyable. hoeg0015 (11), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Mar 13, 2008 pours straight amber, small head. typical nose of english bitters; some caramel, nothing out of the ordinary. i guess i’m not as in love with this beer as some. seriously, i had my wife double check this, but i smelled a sweetness--not fruity, but more of a ketchup or barbeque smell. turned me off a bit. generally i love sam smith, but i think i’ll stick to IPAs over this one. afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 23, 2008 pours an amber with off-white head that is typical of a bitter. nose of caramel and toffee. great level of balance achieved in the flavor. nothing too complex, just good easy drinking beer. very smooth as it goes down. a bit of those wonderful English hops in the finish. well made and very enjoyable. spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Feb 20, 2008 Nice copper pour with one finger head. Nice balance, The malts win slightly. Perfect carbonation. Very slight bitter hop finish. Enjoyable English Pale Ale. Would drink more often except price is $3.79 US per 550 ml. Recommended. brew4fun (167), West Virginia, USA Feb 19, 2008 Pours reddish/copper; creamy, longlasting head produces nice lacing. Aroma mild, caramel malt with faint hops. Taste is excellent example of an English pale ale - malty, medium-to-full bodied, earthy hops. Very smooth and most enjoyable. anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Feb 18, 2008 Bottle. Pours a clear copper color with a small off-white head. Has a fruity malty caramel aroma with some weak hints of hops. Sweet malty caramel flavor with some hoppy hints. Has a malty caramel finish.
