Samuel Smiths Old Brewery Pale Ale

Bottle. Soapy week head with very little trailing. Aroma is almost like a cafe espresso with very little hoppiness. Initial taste is weak and a little watery with an after of iron.

From bottle : Pours a dark clear amber color, looks a little like a nice glass of sweet tea, with a foamy white head. Im getting a nice caramel aroma going from this beer, with some hops mixed in there. Taste seems to be much the same, the caramel is nice. Thin to medium palate, smooth going down. Little bit of bitterness on the back of the tongue.

Poured a light red color with large white head that fades after time. Smelled like a box of raisins and cherry cough syrup. Tasted like cranberries with little hop taste. This beer tastes aged like it was a blended whiskey. An ok beer but not one of my favorites. Lacks any real hop flavor.

Bottle from the LCBO. Split with the missus, and accompanied by roast beef and yorkshire puddings. Complimented the dinner perfectly. Pours a dark amber, with a good muddied white head. The aroma of hops and malt is continued in the flavour, and replaced with a nutty finish. There is a nice mild hoppy bitterness to this brew.

550ml bottle. Pours a clear and vibrant reddish-amber (truly gorgeous) with a healthy off-white head and evident carbonation. Aroma is strong with a mix of hops, roasted malt, and sweeter caramel notes. Taste is creamy and thick with a smooth and sweet initial flavor of hops and nuttiness giving way to a lingering hoppy bite that’s strong but not overwhelming. Truly a beautiful beer to look at (and a fine one to drink as well).

Dark, nut brown ale pours with a full, but quickly diminishing head and takes on a cherry-red hue with large bubbles. Flavor has strong notes of hay, malt, butterscotch, lavender, and walnuts with a quick finish that doesn’t linger on the palate. Would be exceedingly good along side a sharp cheddar or even Swiss-style like appenzellar or vacherin. Food like sausages or potatoes would also be a fine accompaniment.

Pours golden-red with a cream head. Nutty tasting with butterscotch. Slight bitter hoppiness. Very good. Remember this is a mass produced beer. Very nice.

Bottle. Dark golden brown, big white head. Dusty malty aroma - nice. Good taste: malt, nice nutty sweetness, slight hops. Nice nutty finish. A great straight forward session beer, good job Sam Smiths.
