Taste is slightly bitter with an ok mouthfeel. Overall, an fairly decent ale. cowboy7096 (55), Arlington, Texas, USA

After the floral taste it has a nice bitter taste. Goes down real smooth. Real nice ALE. sayravai (3729), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 11, 2006 (Bottled) Dark reddish amber color with a smallish, creamy head. Berries, pine needles and toffeeish caramel in the aroma. Toffee-caramely, not very sweet flavor with berries and some woody-aromatic hops. Light to medium-bodied, quite carbonated palate. Quite nice for its style, but nothing special. JohnnyJ (1307), Carlsbad, California, USA

Skunk flavor and unappetizing bitter finish with a skunky taste left in the mouth. scoobyluv (486), Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jun 17, 2006 Defintiely one of the more beautiful looking pal ales I’ve seen. A ruddy, almost red pour, with a slightly quick diminishing cream head. Some nice lacing on the glass. A slight bitterness on the tongue, but very smooth and creamy on the tongue. Light hop flavoring, a bit heaver on the malt. Not as dry as folks are describing, but I’m sure on a fresh tap it’d stand up. Light sugars with the cream. Very pleasant, and enjoyable beer. A full mouthfull however tastes a bit fishy (as in swimming fish) Sam Smiths keeps a consistent level of high quality in my book. (Bottle Pour 6/17/2006) zombywoof (358), Shawnee, Kansas, USA

Dry with notes of biscuits and nectar, medium body and a short brisk finish.A little fizzy on the tongue. I’ve learned since posting on this site that what the English label pale ales are in fact ESB’s and not what Americans call pale ales so I’m no longer surprised when I order an English "pale ale".
