Bitter. Soy sauce to the nose. Good/recommended. Rugged. OKBeer (1159), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Nov 8, 2005 550 ml clear bottle. Golden copper colour with a mostly diminishing creamy and frothy tan head. Light toffeeish and fruity aroma with metallic notes. Toasty and grainy malts with a nutty and fruity bitter finish. Medium bodied, creamy mouthfeel. I’m starting to see why some of the English raters aren’t so high on Mr. Smith... beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Oct 25, 2005 Bottle from Whole foods. Clear amber ale having small white head with fair lacing. Light molasses aroma. Soft carbonation. Medium bodied that starts with moderate malt sweetness and finishes with moderate bitterness. A good beer that stands well against spicy foods. patrick767 (2016), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Oct 20, 2005 12 oz bottle. I love pale ales and Samuel Smith’s is a good quality, reliable choice for me. The aroma is light, but nice.. Pours with a thin head that sticks around awhile. Light bodied, average carbonation, malty with a pleasant hoppy finish. Well balanced, this beer is a fine choice. Evster64 (106), Kempner, Texas, USA Oct 16, 2005 Aroma: slight hint of peaches, perhaps carmel. ... Appearance: Amber with diminishing head. ... Flavor, smooth up front, lightly sweet/fruity midway through with malt presence. ... Pleasingly dry on the palate, a bit woody, but not overdone. Overall, another very nice selection from ol’ Sammy. I still haven’t had a Smith beer which I didn’t enjoy. thegreenrooster (1811), St.louis, Missouri, USA Oct 14, 2005 Pour was a dark copper with a white head. Aroma was a dark fruit, almost a port wine. Flavor is toffee malts with lots of plums and other dark fruits. Leaves a nice coating on the tounge as you swallow. Very nice and interisting brew. fordest (1954), Santee/San Diego, California, USA Oct 4, 2005 550 ml bottle. Tasted a bit more like a brown ale to me. Still not a big Sam Smith fan. But then again it was an ESB/Bitter. Just an average beer.
