MesandSim (5790), London, Greater London, England Sep 26, 2005 A Mes rate:
Lots of straw in the aroma otherwise typical English ale on the nose. Dark copper appearance with a well lasting head. Odd spotty and slightly chunky lace. Lots of malt and hops but its the hops that wins the day really. Slight iron in there too, in fact maybe a little too much. DrnkMcDermott (1831), Downers Grove, Illinois, USA Sep 26, 2005 Bottled, sampled at <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/illinois/champaign/piccadilly-beverage-shop/637.htm>Picadilly Beverage Shop in Champaign, IL. Well, I found this to be skunky as soon as the cap was popped. That’s to be expected of clear bottles, innit? Still, poured a decent looking English beer, with lower carbonation. Goes down well, with comfortable roasts, light hops and a bit of a dry finish. Appropriate to slip this one in a tasting of Octoberfest beers, since this had a bit of that color. I just need to make sure of a bottle fresh from a closed case. SudsMcDuff (1691), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA Sep 16, 2005 .Poured with little head and lacing; Smelled quite similiar to a whiff of wine, but the slight woody smoke-ish flavour went Very well with a cigar, A Darker/Heavier cigar goes very well with this brew! agl108 (503), Manayunk, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 23, 2005 550 ml bottle. Pours a dark copper with a creamy head that leaves a ring of lace. Faint citrus aroma, not very pungent. Taste is dominated by malts, surprisingly not very hoppy. Not a bad brew at all. ALLOVATE (1126), Perth, Australia Aug 14, 2005 Tasted this from the bottle in the surrounds of the quaint and cosy Vernom Arms hotel, Baldivis, on a cold wintry afternoon. Poured a clear copper with a short soapy off-white head that left legs down the glass. Soft floral and fruity nose with a little caramel and toasted grain. Quite flavoursome and generous toffee malt, orange and mango, and flowery hops in the mouth, medium bodied and spritzy clean across the tongue, it went down with alarming ease. Finish is long citric and sweet with a lot of toasted malt that lingers between mouthfuls. It is quite filling in the stomach so I had to end my session after only a few pints. Nicely balanced, easy quaffer with an old English charm to it in its malt and hop profile. Yet another quality drop from this Tadcaster brewer. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Aug 7, 2005 Bottle. Bronze body with a small tan head. Nose is surprisingly NOT skunky. Aroma is caramel, sweet malts, light biscuity notes, tea leaves, fresh flowers, and dried hops. Taste is sweet and malty. Light tea notes, floral hops, caramel, and light earthiness. Body is light-medium and creamy. Light lingering bitterness. Finishes with more caramel and sweet amlts, flowery hops and light earthy notes. Some lighter vegetal notes as well. ehhdayton (1113), USA Aug 1, 2005 A copper color with a light tan head. A floral aroma. Moderatly hopped with a sweet start and a nutty finish. jimhilt (1663), Bow, New Hampshire, USA Aug 1, 2005 Pours a cream, one-finger head that vanishes quickly leaving no lace. Slightly cloudy amber color. Medium-strong carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is faintly sweet. Starts on the sweet side with some hops hiding in the background. Clean finish, this is a good pale not loaded with hops. $3 for a 550ml bottle from Northend Superette Manchester, NH.
