BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jun 27, 2005 Bottle; Pours with an average size, off-white head that diminishes fairly quick. An orange colored body that is slighly hazed. Both the aroma and flavor have a moderate butterscoth/toffee flavor. Creamy, medium body with soft carbonation. Nice! BlueDevil0206 (122), Durham, North Carolina, USA Jun 24, 2005 Bottled. Pours a deep copper with a medium, long lasting head. Laces well. First whiff of aroma is skunk....kind of expected with Sam Smiths. As the skunk clears, some sweet caramel malt notes comes through with a tad of earthy English hops. Flavor is sweet and malty with sufficient bittering hops to balance. Actually more hops that I was expecting in an English PA/ESB; nice and grassy and earthy. Fruity ester profile. Dry, slightly astringent finish. Body is medium and moderately carbonated. Decent EPA. novedyarg (56), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 22, 2005 Pours a golden body bordering on brown with a thick light light tan head. Malty sweet aroma with little to no hop hints, not your typical pale ale. Grainy malt flavor with underlying sweet roasted malts and spicey hops. Finishes smooth and more malty than hoppy, but a perfect blend of the two together. What a pale ale! Tom Servo (424), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jun 19, 2005 Nice amber color, and pours with a large head. Almost a sour smell, and the taste was a bit the same. A little bit of nutty flavor. SSSteve (2049), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Jun 14, 2005 amber color. foamy white head. malt aroma. malt and bitter flavor. not what i expected. noticed a slight nuttiness. mybrainhurts (213), North Dakota, USA Jun 14, 2005 Light caramel malt, toffee and bready aroma. Faint floral nose also noted. Caramel, toffee, and chewy bread flavors. Finishes round and somewhat creamy. Nice mouthfeel. A good brew. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jun 2, 2005 Pours copper with nice tan head that fades to film. Bready malt aroma ith a little nuttiness to it. Initial flavor is all sweet malt, but has some fruit, nuts, and a little bit of hops in the finish. Good brew overall. Stew41 (1042), Caulfield, Australia May 30, 2005 Dark copper in the glass, very text book. Fruity, yeasty(?) nose with confectionary notes. Balanced palate, very broad flavour profile hits all sides of the tongue, but hard to pick defining hop and malt flavours. Good but not great.
