IMtheOptimator (1161), Bethel, Connecticut, USA Apr 5, 2005 Poured amber with a small off-white head. Light pale ale/hops aroma. Tastes of some light hops, with a somewhat dry buttery finish. Seemed very weak in the flavor department. Rather disappointing for the brewery. valejo (81), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Mar 28, 2005 Yum, yum, I say to the malty character. Thwack! answers the hoppy aftertaste. Seriously, this beer is well balanced. **Edit** Another thing I noticed after a few more swigs is the great oily mouthfeel. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia Mar 24, 2005 Flavoursome malt-driven English-style pale ale. Amber colour, large frothy head. Lively aroma, bursting with hops, caramel malt and biscuits. Medium-bodied and earthy. Caramel malts on the tongue and a dry bitter finish. However, it’s a fairly simple brew, with little of the complexity of some of their other ales. (Bottle) JRBowie (18), Atascosa, Texas, USA Mar 23, 2005 This beer poured up with hardly any head at all. Subtle aroma, but offers no hint as to what’s in store. It"s labeled a pale, but behaves more like a bitter. Feels great in the mouth but the overall flavor impact falls desperately short of my expectations. Not an unpleasant beer by any means, but nothing spectacular either. mephisto (1144), Taiwan Mar 23, 2005 a clean nice pale ale. it does not have the over the top hopping that prevalent in most apa, but it still has nice aroma and flavor. Tonsk45 (17), El Cajon, California, USA Mar 22, 2005 creamy light-yellow head, deep auburn color, very nice to look at. i don’t believve they acheived the balance of hops and malt as they claim(too malty/too light hopping) great bewery but this is definitely not their best ericmc83 (200), Arkansas, USA Mar 20, 2005 Updated: Apr 1, 2005bottle - 3/20/05 - Some hops in the aroma. Well balanced...malt in the beginning with a lightly bitter finish. Not bad. I would like it better if there were a little less malt and a little more hops in the flavor, though. RedEft (131), Wichita, Kansas, USA Mar 20, 2005 Coppery with a nice, fluffy head. Aroma of malts, toffee, and alcohol. Starts with a nice malty wave, but taste lightens substantially in the middle and finishes like water, but in a very refreshing sort of way. Funnily enough, this stuff shares the same, almost greasy mouthfeel of the darker Sammy Smith brews. This is good stuff, but still a bit of an underachiever in taste.
