RedEft (131), Wichita, Kansas, USA Mar 20, 2005 Coppery with a nice, fluffy head. Aroma of malts, toffee, and alcohol. Starts with a nice malty wave, but taste lightens substantially in the middle and finishes like water, but in a very refreshing sort of way. Funnily enough, this stuff shares the same, almost greasy mouthfeel of the darker Sammy Smith brews. This is good stuff, but still a bit of an underachiever in taste. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Mar 12, 2005 A good-looking rusty-orange beer with a large creamy head. Lightly hopped caramel aroma with hints of alcohol. Balanced malt/hop flavor with a watery yet alcoholically-dry mouthfeel. Darken the bottles, Sam. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Mar 10, 2005 Very nice copper color with an average off-white frothy head. Its malty aroma is potentially good, but the clear bottle is responsible for some subtle skunky hints. Mild texture, low carbonation and pretty well-balanced taste. Flavors of toasted malt, biscuit and hops. Ends with a fairly bitter finish. This is another good product from Samuel Smith’s, but I must admit that I was expecting a little more from that one. haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England Feb 26, 2005 Bottled. A gentle copper coloured beer with a hop note to the aroma, a smooth malt flavour and a balanced palate. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Feb 25, 2005 Not one of the better pale ales. I drank this after finishing the oatmeal stout, which i beleive couldve factored the poor performance of this beer JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 25, 2005 Coppery amber body, creamy off-white head. Inviting old-seeming sweet cereal malt and whisky cask aroma. The aroma is light but pleasing. The flavor goes a little downhill. A bit of light, unbalanced bitterness. It has what I think of as english dirty water taste, which I think is just a staleness. Its ok. Tmoney99 (4661), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 22, 2005 Bottle. Dark amber color with good tan head. Aroma was complex balance of malt and hops with a flavor that matched. Good somewhat sweet finish. mds (2112), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 18, 2005 Bottle. copper body, creamy off-white head, sheets of lace. sweet caramel malt aroma, alongside some light hopping and cereal. flavour is heavily of malt, some sourness, and a little bit of bitterness in the finish. medium body. Something seemed a bit off, as the balance wasn’t really there. Otherwise an average ale.
