Pours a wonderful clear ruby amber with a nice size frothy head. Aroma is of toffee, caramel, skunk, earth, and leather. Good skunk though. Tastes of toffee, caramel, leather and spices. Has a medium body with a smooth low carbonated mouth feel and finishes with a big toffee aftertaste lingering on your tongue.

Pours clear pale amber with two fingers of loose white head diminishing gradually to a thick skim, light lacing. (3/5) Nose is bready malt, earthy hops. (6/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter. (6/10) Medium body, low carbonation, off-dry finish. (3/5) Not much to say about this one - pretty standard EPA/ESB. The character is dominated by malt, and the low carbonation makes the body tend a bit to the flat and boring. (12/20)

Pours a pale yellow copper with light foamy head. Nice and clear though, it is a nice looking beer. Aroma is bread, and hops. Taste is some what balance between hops and malts. The hops are not over the top but definitely present. Typical for the type of English beer. Malts have a slight biscuit dry taste. Mild, smooth with a dry finish. Nice.

Appearance is gorgeous clear dark copper with a creamy off-white head. Fine notes of earthy and spicy hops paired with biscuit, whole wheat bread, toffee and honey malts. A nice bittersweetness strikes me foremost with a smooth biscuity, toffee finish that’s well balanced by residual bitterness. Some chompiness in the palate makes this a great lunch....beer.

550ml bottle. Mar15. Pours a bright, deep copper colour with a foamy, light tan head which lasted well and left some lacing. Earthy aroma of caramel and raisins. A mild sweetness is followed by a slightly astringent bitter finish and a hint of nuttiness (so to speak). Soft mouthfeel, light to medium body and very gentle carbonation. I appreciate that this beer is true to style and very well made, it just didn’t leave me craving more.

Bottle. Pours an amber hue, slight haze, big frothy off-white head with mega retention and ridiculous lacing. Nose is toffee, candied orange peel, malt, butterscotch, heather. Mouth is surprisingly only mildly sweet given the aroma, lotta caramel, biscuit malts, slight metallic note near finish and a bit watery. I’d like to sit down at an old fashioned thatch-roofed pub in the countryside of Old Blighty and have this on draught as it was intended to be quaffed. Perhaps watch some hobbits dance a drunken jig to a cheery tune. or a gloomy character from a Brontë novel come stumbling in out of a blizzard and tell me a story while I’m downing pint number three or four. Cheers.

"i like this one every once and a while as a change of pace to the american pales. it’s a very good example of the english style, but that style isn’t usually incredibly appealing to me...i like my pales hoppy. great malt flavor, though, if a little thin."

Small bottle served in a chalice. A: Beautiful clear amber color with a small yellow head. Small retention and not much lacings left S: Delicious smell of toffee, roasted caramel malts, herbs and earthy yeasts T: Also delicious taste of roasted caramel malts and hops. Citrus bite and "hoppy" end M: Light body. Low carbonation. Balanced bitterness. A bit molasses. Quite refreshing O: Good drinkability. Quite light and refreshing beer but at the same time with strong British personality. An authentic British Ale. Light in alcohol, balanced bitterness, dry taste, good perfume of earthy yeasts and fresh hops. Recommended [ BA Review @ 4/18/2010 ]
