Small light tan head and decent orange/brown apperance with better than average lacing. Mild malty nose with some caramel. Very tasty! Caramel, ripe fruit, yummy hops and a background sourness. Soft almost chewable mouthfeel which has good tingle and finishes with a quiet fruity aftertaste. Very smooth. Another excellent, expensive Samuel Smith brew. jonnabrix (136), Newberrytown, Pennsylvania, USA

The flavor has some of those hop notes, with light malt, and then more hops in the aftertaste. Smooth going down, with a fair amount of carbonation, this is solid. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 7, 2007 Concur, tastes more like a brown than a pale ale. Not as good as other Sam Smith products, but still very good. Not much nose. Somewhat confusing, tastes like the younger (more mild) brother of the Nut Brown.
Lighter flavor with a smooth finish. Excellent beer to introduce to a newbie. SuperDave70 (1160), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA

Sweet nutty caramel malt aroma, along with a hint of fruit. Flavor is also sweet and malty, with a nice hoppy bittering finish. Medium mouthfeel. Pretty refreshing. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Dark amber with a quickly disappearing off-white head. In appearance, a "pale ale" it is far from. Malty, sweet aroma with some grassy hops. Bready, sweet malt flavour with a bit of hops to balance it out. Somewhat short, sweet finish with a slight sweet aftertaste and slight hop flavourings lingering. Medium body and well carbonated. A good, pleasant bitter that’s enjoyable to drink. bboven (103), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Bottle. Poured a dark copper. Much deeper in color than most other pale ales. Big creamy off-white head that laces nicely. Weak nose of sweet malt and fruit, slight hints of hops. Tastes of caramel malt and balanced nicely with a micld hop finish. Pretty sweet overall. Not as many hops in this beer as an american pale ale. But it is a very typical English style beer that I would definitely recommend. It is better than Bass.
