3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Had seen this one for a while before i "pulled the trigger"
550ml bottle from Fred Meyer in S.Salem OR.
Absolutely perfect looking stout in my snifter..black of course and with a bubbly, creamy and thick light tan head.
Smells of sweet chocolate powder, raisins and honey. Nice but simple.
Taste is the same creamy sweet cocoa nibs,,toasted cereal and a slight alcoholic taste that seems out of place in something this strength.
Mouth feel is on the thin side for style but the medium carbonation helps out.
This is OK but i expected a whiole lot more.

550ml bottle from LCBO. Very nice aroma of fruit and chocolate, nice palate, and nice looking stout. The chocolate flavour is very apparent, and as nice as it is, this beer is too sweet. Needs something to balance off that sweetness.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled 28/11/13. A black beer with a whitish head. A good choccy nose which is interesting and invitin. Chocolate and fruit in the mouth. However there’s too much choc and it’s also too sweet. Ends up tasting like a black forest gateau. Has flaws for sure.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle - Dark brown, almost back in colour. Artificial chocolate and vanilla in the aroma. Roasted malt, chocolate and vanilla dominate in the sweet and slightly sickly taste.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle in the Anchor Inn, Guisborough. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Sweet cocoa aroma. The flavour is dominated by a sweet cocoa, rather than chocolate flavour, especially the after-taste. This makes it pretty sickly and I doubt I could drink more than one of these in a single sitting. I’d prefer more of the stout character to come through. Good for those who enjoy a desert beer. A good beer, but a bit too much for my tastes.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours near black with a frothy off-white head. Aroma is incredible cocoa and syrup with a roasted coffee note. Taste is sweet and smooth. Possibly the best chocolate-balanced beer I’ve ever tasted. Sweet but not cloying. Definitely a dessert beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours dark side of the moon black with a thick shaving cream style two finger cap. Taste is pure dessert: cocoa powder, Black Forest cake, & carob. Leans a little too hard on the sweetness, which in turn starts to make a full pint a bit of a grind. If I was turning the dials & levers on this brew I’d move away from the liquid candy bar flavour profile & punch in a bit more depth.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Black with a tan head. Aroma and taste of choclate, cocoa, cookies and chocolate pudding. Sweet and artificial. I have mixed feelings about this one, the aroma was rather nice but the taste was too sweet and artificial.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Surprised to see a Sam Smiths at Wegman’s I had not had. This starts really well, rich chocolate nose , alternately milky and bittersweet. The palate is hefty milk chocolate that never quits, and gets a bit annoying. Similar to atwater Decadent I recently had. Much prefer their flagship oatmeal stout.
