Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic cocoa extract impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is a marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate.

Bottle; color was dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma of milk chocolate, cocoa powder, with some nice sweetness. Flavor had an initial chocolate burst. Creamy and layers of chocolate. Tasted like melted M and Ms. Very good.

pours jet coffee black with a small creamy head, long-lasting foamy retention, lots of sticky lacing. Robust and a distinctly milk chocolatey nose. Attack: fizzy/creamy, 6/10-sweetness Mid-palate: malts, milk chocolate, hints of cola/sarsaparilla, hazelnut Finish: mild bitter roast, traces of sourness, light coffee & bittersweet malty lingering long finish. Amazingly full-bodied for a relatively low ABV (5%) beer. A superb balance of sweetness, flavour, bitterness, and drinkability.

Poured into a perfect pint. 3.5 A: Black color. Three fingers of frothy, tan head. Retention is good and a finger sized ring of lacing is left. 4.5 S: Cocoa that transcends beer and smells like a chocolate milkshake instead. Just tons of cocoa. Quite sweet overall and it works well. Light roast. If thereís anything else, it gets lost under all of the chocolate. 3.5 T: The cocoa isnít as intense as in the nose, not by a long shot. But, itís still extremely potent. Lactose-like tangy sweetness. Chocolate and caramel and light roast. Itís rich, but itís too tangy. Of course, itís still tasty, but a little strange. The base beer comes through much stronger in the taste than in the nose. 4.5 M: Heavier medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Nice creaminess. No complaints here. 3.5 D: This is a sweet indulgent treat, but itís intense tanginess really hits the drinkibility. One 550ml is plenty and even a few ounces more than I wanted. Bomber bottle poured a dark deep brown w/ beige head and some lacing. Huge cocoa aroma. Initial flavor light sweet w/ a light bitter finish. Taste is a wonderful dark chocolate liquor. Medium bodied and light carbonation. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

A cool-looking antique label and lots of rich hot cocoa aroma. Malty and chocolatey, with a bit of coconut cream and almond/amaretto. The finish is light and sweet. It is a little odd, perhaps due to the added flavorings. Not bad, but not my favorite from Samuel Smith. Is it appropriate that my rating #1776 is an English beer? Perhaps it should have been a revolutionary beer.

Awesome beer here. Pored from 22oz bottle into a shaker. Pours a very dark brown, almost black comparable to dark chocolate with a nice light brown head. Smells of chocolate notes, vanilla and light caramel. Very smooth with obvious chocolate taste. Strong vanilla flavor, with a milk-like texture and soft carbonation. Goes down smooth and leaves a great chocolate taste lingering in your mouth.

500ml bottle from Samís, Durham. Iíd been hesitant on this one for a while, for one reason or another, but popped it with some friends and found it righteously tasty. Lovely appearance, a deep mellow dark brown with a medium silky head. Really nice choc nose, nothing artificial or candied about it, melds really nicely with the base stout qualities. Smooth and full mouthfeel, lightly carbonated. Tastes are sumptuous, a rich stout at its core, abetted by loads and loads of choc. Might be a one-trick pony, but itís a goodern.
