Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic cocoa extract impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is a marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate.

Bottle. Poured clear dark brown color with an average to large frothy brown head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Solid toasted sweet chocolate malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted chocolate sweet flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where exceeded.

Pours a solid dark brown with a tightly bubbled off white head that shows moderate retention and minimal lace. Smells of vanilla and milk chocolate mostly and the scent overpowers anything that dares find its way to my nostrils. The the flavor is sweet and creamy with more of the vanilla and milk and dark chocolate. There’s a hint of tart and a touch of butterscotch as well as that characteristic mineral flavor that I always seem to get from Samuel Smiths. I think it’s from the water. Medium body with a light level of carbonation and a sweet creamy silky mouthfeel. Reminds me of a malted chocolate shake really. Light on the beer, heavy on the chocolate, it was nice to try but not something I would often seek out.

The aroma is pure chocolate and molasses with a tiny hint of coffee. The appearance is dark brown wit a small head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter finish. The palate is smooth. Overall probably one of the best chocolate lover beers out there.

Bottle to snifter. Pours an obsidian black color with a multiple finger beige head. Head reduces quickly enough to get a good sip. Aroma of chocolate syrup, dates, and roast. Taste isn’t as chocolatey as the aroma but still the main characteristic of this beer. Tastes like a 68% cacao bar leaving some bitterness in the mouth. Good.

Aroma of dutch cocoa. Pours a mahogany shade with beige head. Almond, molasses, ginger, milk chocolate on the palate. Fantastically smooth and creamy.

UPDATED: NOV 17, 2012 Pours very dark brown, near black, opaque with three fingers of rocky tan head, good retention and some lacing. Aromas of chocolate, roasted, malt, coffee, and caramel. Taste is sweet and malty up front, then strong chocolate/cocoa tones with hints of coffee, caramel, and nutty malts. Nice mildly bitter cocoa finish that lingers. Light carbonation and medium body with a smooth mouthfeel. Delicious and drinkable, I will have to find this beer again. Update: Had this beer several more times. Still excellent.

Very pretty appearance, dark garnet brown with two fingers of creamy tan head. Very chocolaty in the nose and flavor, rich and dominating. Rich and full bodied with a smooth finish. Very light bitterness. Hard to go into much detail here. Super chocolaty beer.

Bottle @ the Fitzroy Tavern. The pour’s deep brown with a big, creamy tan head. The nose is bright sweet chocolate sauce, a bit of vanilla and cream. The taste is similarly dominated by sweet chocolate flavors. This is a very sweet chocolate stout indeed. Some earthy roasted malts keep things together. Creamy palate, light. Overall, despite the crazy sweetness, this has some charm. Not bad, actually.

500. Thanks, A! Pours nearly solid black with a loose tan head. Gorgeous big rich chocolate nose, halfway between a good chocolate bar and good cocoa powder. Creamy thickish body with soft carb. Good chocolate and good cocoa on the mid palate, very creamy and dimensional and pleasant without being cloying. Good beer.

12 oz. from Chuck’s @ $2.59. If you like the aroma of chocolate, you will love how this smells. Chocolate invades the nostrils but doesn’t overpower the palate. Smooth and mild cocoa flavor in an otherwise neutral-tasting stout.
