Big bottle purchased at Giant Eagle on Rte. 8 in Pittsburgh. Hearing good things about this one I decided to invest and am happy ever since. The best I’ve had in a long while and certainly worthy of a perfect score. Can’t wait to taste it fresh from the tap instead of the bottle.

Bottle. Aroma of cocoa powder, chocolate syrup and white toast. Taste is very sweet. You almost want to pair it with a dessert. Taste consists of chocolate syrup, dark chocolate, prunes, and that slight tang that all Samuel Smith beers have. Body is medium. Level of carbonation is low.

550 ml shared amongst friends into "juice" glasses. Pours brown-black with no head at all. Nose is all chocolate, if I wasn’t spoiled by southern tier choklat I would say its the most chocolate on the nose of a beer. So this one gets second place for chocolate aroma. It really has the cola like appearance right down the red tinges on the fringe of the glass and you can kind of see through it. Taste is roast, bitter chocolate, sugar in the raw, and a little bit of espresso. Mouthfeel is quite smooth and very moderate almost thin. Carbonation is very low as well, leaving to to taste a bit like chocolate milk all though no lactose sugar is detectable. Finish is mild and sweet. Enjoyable but I wouldn’t seek it out over choklat.

Dark brown/black with a medium tan head. Amazing chocolate aroma of cocoa, sweetness, and very light roastiness. Mild cocoa flavor, with light sweetness and creaminess. Light bitter finish.

Black, opaque. Good smell, like warm toffee, matches the style. I’m not huge on chocolate beers, but this is one of the ones I’d buy again. The chocolate taste is present but not overpowering. Sam Smith’s scores again.

Bottles from Capone’s and Wegman’s. Pours hazy dark blackish with 1-finger frothy tan head. Nose is strong dark chocolate, cacao, chocolate syrup, Tastes of cacao, ovaltine, chocolate powder mix, some creamy lactic notes. Palate is a bit wayery, but has a pretty smooth finish, and a beer that is on the sweet side, so it would pair well with something like German chocolate cake.

Dec 2012 - bottle. Big beige foamy head, almost spongey. Taste is primarily sweet chocolate syrup with a bit of watery stout. Very sweet in comparison to most stouts you’ll get. There is quite a lot of chocolate flavour, but it is quite artificial tasting.
