Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic cocoa extract impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is a marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate.

Bottle split with a friend; poured my allotment into a snifter. As the beer pours it looks thin like muddy water, but as the beer sits in the glass, it take son a much more foreboding blackness. A small beige head rest atop. The aroma of this beer is insane. Sweet cream, vanilla beans, chocolate syrup, butterscotch - crazy sweet smell. This reminds me of an overly-sweet coffee drink. Super creamy mouthfeel. Carbonation is light, but not overly thin. The sweetness carries over to the flavor quite so. A huge wallop of vanilla, chocolate milk, syrup, marshmallows, whipped cream, etc. Bordering on cloying. This is too much for me I think. I can’t find any aspect of this that makes it a ’beer.’ There are better example of sweet stouts that carry some residual sweetness, but don’t compromise on the base beer flavors. I’m glad I split this bottle. An entire bottle would have been a chore for me. This has ’dessert’ and ’ice cream’ written all over it. No on to check my blood glucose...

Bottle. Poured Dark brown with a nice tan head. Aroma of Chocolate, vanilla and malts. Taste is consistent, lots of chocolate, and roast malts, combined with some vanilla towards the end. Very tasty, very enjoyable stout.

Amazing Chocolate Stout, for someone that doesn't like a coffee flavor base. Sweet, and I don't find the flavor artificial as some reviewers have...if you're looking for a true chocolate "dessert beer," I can't imagine any better than this. Tops my previous chocolate fave, Southern Tier's Choklat. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Strong chocolate and vanilla aroma blend well with sweet malts. Medium bodied dark stout, a well done Sweet Stout from Sammy Smiths.

550 ml bottle. Pours black with a decent head. Nice looking brew- not too many bubbles. Appropriately weighty for a stout. Taste is tons of chocolate, dark malt, some vanilla and a nice warmth on the back end. Really smooth and creamy. Sweet- reminiscent of milk stout/ lactose sweetness. Palate/ mouthfeel is about perfect for the style- low carbonation and substantial mouthfeel. If I had to nitpick, chocolate is slightly overwhelming and a bit of a bully flavor-wise in this one- but it is, after all, a chocolate stout. Will buy again.

Dark brown, small beige head. Aroma chocolate and sweet malt. Medium light body. Creamy. Flavor is sweet and quite chocolately, but reasonably balanced with some drier malt character. liked this one this is now my favorite chocolate stout!

Live review. This was poured into a nonic pint glass. The appearance is a nice looking off white two fingered foaminess that lasts about a good two minutes before gently dissipating. There is some light bubbly lacing that ends up sliding for the most part. The smell has a nice chocolatey aroma with a decent roastiness backing that up and even letting a nice sweet vanilla enter in after a bit warming. The taste was sweet chocolate and yet there’s still a decent roastiness about it and the vanilla even comes back. The aftertaste is slightly chocolatey and yet still carries that roastiness to invite me into the finish. On the palate, this one sits about a medium in body with a semi-decent sessionable quality about it. The carbonation is super smooth. Overall, I say this is a pretty good sweet stout worthy of having again and definitely worthy of putting in my wife’s chocolate cupcakes she makes every St Patrick’s day. I will be making sure to be getting one of these again next March for those cupcakes.
