Bottle: Filtered
Ingredients: Water; Organic malted barley; Organic cane sugar; Yeast; Organic hops; Organic cocoa extract; Carbon dioxide
Brewed with well water (the original well, sunk in 1758, is still in use with the hard well water being drawn from 85 feet underground), the gently roasted organic cocoa extract impart a delicious, smooth and creamy character, with inviting deep flavours and a delightful finish - this is a marriage of satisfying stout and luxurious chocolate.

By far the best chocolate stout I have ever tasted. The chocolate taste is overly apparent, and for those who would like to taste more stout than chocolate, this beer is not for you. Amazing with a slice of chocolate cake.

A cool-looking antique label and lots of rich hot cocoa aroma. Malty and chocolatey, with a bit of coconut cream and almond/amaretto. The finish is light and sweet. It is a little odd, perhaps due to the added flavorings. Not bad, but not my favorite from Samuel Smith. Is it appropriate that my rating #1776 is an English beer? Perhaps it should have been a revolutionary beer.

Awesome beer here. Pored from 22oz bottle into a shaker. Pours a very dark brown, almost black comparable to dark chocolate with a nice light brown head. Smells of chocolate notes, vanilla and light caramel. Very smooth with obvious chocolate taste. Strong vanilla flavor, with a milk-like texture and soft carbonation. Goes down smooth and leaves a great chocolate taste lingering in your mouth.

500ml bottle from Sam’s, Durham. I’d been hesitant on this one for a while, for one reason or another, but popped it with some friends and found it righteously tasty. Lovely appearance, a deep mellow dark brown with a medium silky head. Really nice choc nose, nothing artificial or candied about it, melds really nicely with the base stout qualities. Smooth and full mouthfeel, lightly carbonated. Tastes are sumptuous, a rich stout at its core, abetted by loads and loads of choc. Might be a one-trick pony, but it’s a goodern.

Darkest brown, slight amber hue, frothy tan head slowly settles and lasts. Tantalizing sweet milk chocolate aroma. Bittersweet milk chocolate and dark roasted malt taste endure to the soft smooth silky finish. Soft carbonation, medium body, low hopped. Awesome desert beer. LBW (Lagerboys Be Wary)

Pours a dark, coffee brown with little head. The aroma is really outstanding. There’s a really strong, sweet chocolate smell that actually reminds me of a chocolate scented candle or the aroma of a chocolate cake in the oven. It’s one of the strongest and sweetest smelling chocolate beers I’ve ever smelled. The flavor is even stronger and sweeter chocolate cake, which I don’t enjoy as much. It’s just very, very rich and sweet. This would be a great dessert beer to share with a companion, but I found the flavor too rich and sweet to thoroughly enjoy just in terms of a guy and a beer.

18.7oz bottle with smudged code ending in 24M1 - I believe this was bottled in 2013 - @50º into 14.7 Zwiesel Cognac snifter and slightly bowed 16oz highball; Pours up as dark as I’ve seen at this abv, end of the glass finally reveals some red to amber highlights, pillow slightly desaturated khaki head demonstrates some resilience creating a variety of rounded abstract forms and spatters of lace; nose is surprisingly complex, the initial burst of chocolate and cocoa powder becomes balanced by earthy minerals which I’ve found characteristic of this brewery along with dark fruits and sweet cola nuances, whipped chocolate frosting; taste follows on a light-med, moderately carbonated smooth body resulting in a soft chocolatey dryness; definitely sweet, but not sugary sweet, with enough dimension to make this a solid session

Bottle 550 ml @home. A:pour with black, non opaque color. Beige fluffy, and nicely lacing head.A: woow, after opening, quite strange, not typical roasted ’stoutish’ aroma at all! Smells like sort of cocoa liquor extract (ingredient actually). Plus some vanilla to it. M&T: Moderate body with shy carbonation. Up front, overwhelming sweet cocoa extract is hiding absolutely everything beside it. Hint of bitterness in aftertaste. O: Sadly, not balanced at all. Quite unusual and over the top ingredient dominates too much. Not session beer, that is!! And even quite hard to finish. Not my pair of boots!
