This is ordinary. It lacks all the complexity that i expect from a barley wine. This is basically just strong and malty.

Golden with a tiny white head. Fruity with malty tones. Fruit, malt, caramel and spices. Full body with a nice, warming, sweet finish.

Hazy brown beer. Short lived white head. Dry palate. Rich malt, spicy. Bitterish toffee and subtle but tart orange fruit. A little brandy in the finish. No the smoothest but a no-nonsense barleywine.

25cl bottle, courtesy of and shared with Gnoff. Ambrée, col blanc soyeux. Arôme de caramel, malt, sucré avec note de pomme. Reste caramélisé en bouche, fin houblon, sucre brun avec qcq fruits noirs, riaisns et vineux avec un peu de résine. Un peu décevante.

Bottleneck says best before JUN10. The bottle was properly cellared since I bought it in April 2010. Totally overoxidized and with notes of alcohol. Can’t get much of other flavours. Drainpour.

Fantastico barley wine di Samuel Smith, nulla da invidiare rispetto ad un delizioso passito che viva il gorgo fiorito.

180 ml bottle sampled in 2009. Deep golden body with a small white head. Aroma of sweet malt, honey and warming alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, honey, sugar and alcohol. Fine body with a sweet and alcoholic aftertaste. It’s a nice beer and actually tastes better than it seems from this description. Balanced sweet alcoholic.
