I am new to dark beers, however this is by far my favorite porter. Great roasted taste, nice feel on the palate. This beer is worth a try.

A thoroughly satisfying porter. F. Paul Pacult has an excellent review of this in The Beer Essentials (a book you should all own). He picks up more flavors in the aroma than I do, but he has a much better nose than mine!

Purty stout. Great aroma-- a little peppery, some currant, strong fresh pear. Incredibly well-balanced, a lot drier than it smells. Roasty, but not coffee-burnt. Excellent with corned/roast beef, potatoes (or chips). Earlier reviews mentioned skunk, but I think they just got bad bottles. No skunk that I could find -- although some SS beers (Pale Ale) have a whisper.

The hops smell aged and dull as do the roast flavors taste. Soft, almost-slick feel. Dangerously close to wet/thin. I found myself moving in the beer’s direction, struggling to appreciate it and then just gave up. Face it... this is grandpa’s beer. There’s not much here.

Great beer. Slight roast malt taste and hop aftertaste. Full body. Very delicate.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thick, fluffy head. Relatively weak taste considering dark color and full body. Nice on the palate. Although alcohol presence increases as the glass is emptied, it remains a mild tasting and decent porter.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is skunky with a little bit of malt. Flavor is still skunky with some underlying layers of roasted malt. Seems like there might be a good porter in there somewhere. Perhaps a bit thin though, and there’s a sourness that I’m not sure is related to the skunkiness. Very dark brown with a medium head and fair lacing. Finish is dry and bitter.

I think it sort of reminded me of Arrogant Bastard ale ,but I really can’t remember.
