JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland Nov 2, 2008 A 0.355L bottle. Pale brown head. Dark reddish brown colour. Malty and syrup nose. Slightly sour malty and chocolate in the taste. Also some hints of toffee and coffee. Quite dry. ScottB (73), Bristow, Virginia, USA Nov 1, 2008 Pours a deep brown, almost black with a thick, creamy brown head that slowly dissipates to brown lace. Sweet dark fruit and chocolate on the nose. Slightly bitter in the mouth with coffee and chocolate notes. Pleasant finish. RasterMaster (120), , Oklahoma, USA Oct 31, 2008 Dark carmel brown pour into a thick foamy head which lingers into tan lacings on the glass. Heavy aroma of yeasty malts and roasted barley. Initial fruity tangy flavor which quickly fades into light hoppy sweetness with slight coffee non-lingering aftertaste. Drank first one from the bottle which was well conditioned which presented good carbonation. Very drinkable porter. imawayforapint (17), , Alberta, Canada Oct 28, 2008 Looks impressive, but not an exemplar of the style. A little insipid to be truthful (especially after a bottle of fullers london porter). Thin, watery, one almost suspects heavy use of caramel to cover and colour a bog standard bog quality beer. Not the large roasted grain taste or aroma the colour belies. Slipstream (735), USA Oct 28, 2008 I have been looking forward to this one, hopefully to again express my appreciation for Samuel Smith products. The label is not my favorite from them. This pours dark with a big, foamy roof. Aroma is malty, fruity, and piercing with noticable yeast. The taste is superb: a complex, smoky flavor that puts it in the highest rank of porters. Coffee, esters, tobacco, and malt flavors are all present. Despite the full-on, but still well-controlled flavor, the body is pretty light and the finish is pleasant and subtle, with a lingering malty aftertaste. Not too sweet, too heavy, or too harsh, Taddy Porter is another exemplary brew from Samuel Smith. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 27, 2008 From a 500 ML bottle from By the Bottle in Vancouver, WA--RIch, dark hue. Brown-black with a round, fluffy tan head. Nutty, creamy, chocolate nose. Easy drinking, not thick on the tongue, but rich in complexities. Great beer from a great brewery. hoppopotamus (182), Santa Cruz, California, USA Oct 27, 2008 A very dark brown (but not jet-black) beer with a small off-white head that leaves no lace and dissipates quickly. The aroma is burnt toast, a bit of chocolate and espresso, but not overwhelming. The flavor is a roasted, bitter barley flavor with a rather thin mouthfeel. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Oct 24, 2008 Pours dark brown with creamy head. Surprisingly light for its appearance. Not an intense flavor but smooth and sweet. Very good.
