Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Oct 20, 2008 Pours near black with a nice cream colored head. Aroma is malty and roasty. Taste is roasted and chocolate malt that is smooth and fairly light bodied for a porter. Classic. GMUcrew7 (353), Mason, Ohio, USA Oct 17, 2008 Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Very nice roasted malts and chocolate. Wonderful complex flavors, roasted malt, coffee and some dark fruit and vanilla. Medium body, somewhat oily. Great porter. bretupdegraff (172), Fishers, Indiana, USA Oct 16, 2008 poured dark - nice tight head that stayed and left very nice lacing. The aroma was smokey, toasty malts. Flavor was much the same. nice palate - Very good porter - the portors just leave me wanting a bit more flavor. Very smooth and likely too smooth for me. All around a good brew. mcsquint (93), , Missouri, USA Oct 16, 2008 Poured from a 550ml bottle. Black in color, nearly opaque with creamy 2 finger, light tan head. Head dissipates in a few minutes leaving nice lacing. Aroma of toasted malt and dried fruit. Tastes delicious. Heavy malt flavor with notes of chocolate, toffee and dried prunes. Full mouthfeel with toasty malt finish. Very drinkable. The kind of quality I’ve come to expect from Samuel Smith’s. bassbuckeye (81), Ohio, USA Oct 16, 2008 Dark poor with copper head that disipated to nothing. Nice nutty mouth feel roasted malt and subtle nut flavor. Slight coffe note maybe the breakfast stout I had 2 days ago ruined my palate but this one is nice but not bold. movezig (137), Pensacola, Florida, USA Oct 16, 2008 Amazing porter. poured a dark brown/black quickly disapating white head. Nice medium palate. Nose of soy, molasses, dark roast somewhat smokey. Flavors of smoked malts, soy, dark chocolate, pulled out a lot of coffee. This is a very rich porter. What’s interesting is how close this brew is to its imperial stout counter part. KYackley (32), , Minnesota, USA Oct 15, 2008 Opaque appearance with a mild carbonated head, complex molasses scent with a quiff of caramel, robust coffee taste that lasts sufficiently, overall you wouldn’t want more than three to four of these but you’ll enjoy the ones you have... will try again SoberCajun (49), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Oct 8, 2008 Updated: Oct 17, 2009Aromas of malt and mocha, pours pretty dark brown, quickly dissipating head, but decent lacing. Flavors: roasty, toasted vanilla notes, some coffee. Pretty dry, drinks smooth. Not quite as full in body as I’d like for this style.
