thechandler (268), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA May 27, 2008 Pours an opaque dark brown with a creamy tan head. Aroma is nice and full, malty, chocolate aroma. Full bodied flavor. Choclate and coffee notes. Nice and malty. A bit bitter, but not in the hoppy way. Pretty smooth for a brew as full-bodied as this is. mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA May 25, 2008 Pours a dark brown with a medium, foamy light brown head. Smells of light roast, toasted malts, toffee, and light chocolate cream. The flavor is pretty syrupy, full bodied on the palate. Nice roasty flavors with a good chocolate cream balance embody its character. Really smooth and easy drinking porter. Quite solid in all aspects. zeke626 (302), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA May 25, 2008 Bottle, pours a dark red-brown body with a generous light brown head. Aroma of sweet and roasted malts along with cocoa and a hint of bread. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel; medium-bodied and not too heavy on the palate. Roasted malt flavor with hints of chocolate and coffee. Slight bitter coffee finish with a nutty aftertaste. A solid and drinkable porter. puboflyons (590), New Hampshire, USA May 24, 2008 From a 355 ml. bottle marked SH16C1. Another top notch brew from the Tadcaster Bewery. Pours an extremely dark almost black color with a beige/tan frothy head. Aroma of barley, malts, and maybe some chocloate or cocoa. But the latter is more subtle. Good mouthfeel and very creamy. Flavor is hard to define but it is most definitely smooth. Everyone already knows that when you pick up a Samuel Smith, you are picking up quality. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA May 23, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark black with a thick tan head. Has a mildly sweet roasted aroma, flavor follows suit, sweet molasses with a nice burnt finish. Very good overall. cking (1012), North Canton, Ohio, USA May 22, 2008 Another Sammy Smith brew in which I am not overly impressed with. I typically look beyond this line of bottles, but I was able to find a single 12 ouncer for under two bucks. Dark, opaque amber/brown pour with a 1/2" tan head and spotty lacing. Light malty aroma with some roasted notes and a bit of sweet caramel, not very powerful. Nice on the palate, very creamy with a faint richness that makes this drink good and easy. Sweet along with a touch of calm bitterness. The body is on the thin side, but it’s still filling and creamy. Good taste, mostly malts with some balancing noble hop flavors. Nutty and roasted along with a bit of toffee and mild chocolate. Standard English fare, I ended up liking this more that expected. OSLO (825), Perth, Australia May 22, 2008 [Bottle] Pours black with a light tan head. I’m going to have to try this one again, because in both the taste and the aroma I noticed a hint of something that reminded me of the grapes from cheap red grape juice. Odd. Other than that there was a stronger maple syrup character and a toasted malt finish. Pretty good mouthfeel. I had to have been off with the grape thing, but I actually liked it, and I’ll rerate soon when I get another bottle. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA May 19, 2008 Bottle... Poured near black, opaque with slight amber highlights and a thick beige head. Aroma of toasted barley and Irish Cream alcohol. Palate is sharp with a definite carbonation presence. Flavors of cocoa and coffee with sweet, milky barley-malt. Finished with chocolate and coffee bean flavors.
