yespr (11644), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 4, 2008 35.5 cL bottle. Pours dark brown with deep redish glare and a dense and tan head. Dry roasted malt and ligh liqourice aroma. Flavour is light roasted with a mild earthy note and followed by a light acidic touch. Dry, acidic and light earthy finish. uhclem (188), Loveland, Colorado, USA May 3, 2008 Pours a nice espresso color with a beige head and lovely lacing. Nose is fruity with undertones of bread and malt. Taste carries a little too much yeast which overwhelms the malt. Also, it’s too sweet. Mouthfeel is thin - a bit of a disappointment as I expected something heartier. It is also cloying on the back of the tongue. Aftertaste is good, with a lingering taste of roasted malt. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA May 1, 2008 500ml bottle in pint glass. Near black with lasting light brown head and lace. Tart fishy chocolate aroma. Tart roasted chocolate soy sauce flavor with raisins grapes, red wine, and mild hop bitterness. Medium-light body and medium-low carbo. Nice mouthfeel. Something about the tang of this puts me off. The only SS beer I don’t like. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA Apr 29, 2008 Updated: Jul 4, 2008A little too much for me. Too much darkness in the taste. Dank and stagnant darkness. That Sam Smith sour. Ehhh spikester (602), Salem, Oregon, USA Apr 29, 2008 Absolutely black with a tan 2" head. Tan lacings.
Aroma is roasted malts.
Taste is dark molasses. Slight bitter finish. Not a bad porter. Wonder what it would taste like without the cane sugar?
If you like sweet roasted malts with a touch of sweetness here you go.
From the bottle. NoMasBudweiser (5), Norman, Oklahoma, USA does not count Apr 27, 2008 (Bottle) Pours thick with a persistent tan head that stays throughout. Aroma of roasted malts dominates. Beautiful molasses-black color with hints of a deep auburn around the sides & bottom. Heavy roasted flavor that stays around to compliment the subtle sweetness at the end. A little too thin, I like the hearty mouthfeel of the Fuller’s London a lot better, but a great beer that starts magnificently and finishes just as well. TheJoseph (5), Washington DC, USA does not count Apr 21, 2008 A damn good porter, coming from a guy who isn’t a big porter fan. It’s flavorful, smooth, and drinkable. Highly recommended, a fine example of the brew type. tgncc (796), Bellmore, New York, USA Apr 21, 2008 Aroma is very roasty, and a little sweet. The appearance is a dark black, with a lingering foam head. The flavor is sweet, malty, with some roastiness. There’s a strong roasty quality on the finish. Relatively thick mouthfeel. A fine representation of its type. An excellent porter.
