Very thick and smooth texture. naivepegasus (183), USA Mar 14, 2008 550 ml bottle. Pours black with really thick, dark head. Sweet, nutty odors in the head. The taste is sweet, with a strong chocolate taste that ends with a nice hoppy bitterness. Its very smooth and creamy, with a nice warm mouthfeel to it. As far as porters go, this might be the best I’ve had. Brewsmith (136), Torrance, California, USA Mar 11, 2008 From a 550ml bottle poured into a standard American pint glass. Pours dark brown, tight inch high tan head. Aroma is of earthy hops and sweet figs in the malt profile. Initial flavors of toasty bread, followed by fruity malt with some dark caramel sweetness. That gives way to a little roast flavor followed by the hop bitterness in the aftertaste. Full bodied, creamy, but still dry. A little minerally, chalky, but some of that is from the roast. Overall, this is a very complex beer. Very easy drinking. It’s doesn’t have an overpowering roast character like some American Robust Porters can have. The roast flavor seems ot act in cooperation with the hop bitterness to balance the malt. I love the balance between all of the flavors. A fantastic beer. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Mar 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a thick dark head. Nice roasted aroma. Sweet chocolatey roasted flavor. Nice body, drinkable all night. A prime example of why porter is the beer that made the brewing industry. Wegro (218), Fresno, California, USA Mar 9, 2008 Pours a reddish dark dark brown. Smells malty, nutty, and chocolatey. Has a great semi sweet chocolate flavor, along with some tangy citrus notes and impressive malt bitterness. goes down smooth and has a great thick mouthfeel. I’m starting to see why people like sam smith stuff so much. This is really good stuff.
