thenick (742), North Bellmore, New York, USA Mar 7, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep reddish-brown with a fluffy brown head. Aroma is roasted malt with oat, chocolate, and slight slight hop characteristics. Taste is nuts and roasted malt up front, dissolving into a beautiful chocolate/caramel flavor with a smooth and dry finish. Hops are barely detectable but seem to add to the overall experience of the beer. Wonderful. corby112 (679), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 4, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with ruby edges and foamy tan head. Aroma of oatmeal, roasted malts and hops. Lots of oatmeal and roasted malt up front, followed by chocolate, toffee and nut. Dry slightly bitter finish. KDorgan12 (163), Memphis, Tennessee, USA Mar 3, 2008 Memphis-Bottle. Dark Ruby Red pour, thin flavor, little aroma. Why to they use those damn clear bottles? And did I get jipped? I see the rating and I clearly did ot have the same experience. brianprentiss (473), Portland, Oregon, USA Mar 2, 2008 very balanced and warming beer. slightly chocolaty with roasted malts. very solid beer. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Mar 1, 2008 Updated: Jun 21, 2009pours black like black gold texas tea with a thick tight brown head. you can smell the robustness of the roasted barley and taste the malts along with hints of java and chocolate afull body of flavors but lacking on alcohol content along with being a little sweet very very smooth porter i like mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 1, 2008 Bottle poured into pint glass- poured extremely dark brown with some blackness, huge tan head formed and stayed around for awhile. Aroma of roasted malts, scattered with notes of dark chocolate, molasses, and hops, very appealing. Hits the mouth with a thick medium body, very rich on the mouth, malts along with previously said notes come through clearly, finish dissolves away. Very enjoyable. RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Mar 1, 2008 Poured a dark ruby brown, almost pitch black, with a thick tan head with unusually large bubbles. Mostly chocolate and coffee aromas, but I could also sense some nuttiness. Chocolate flavors with nuttiness that was more pronounced than in the smell. Additional flavors of roasted malts, then some dark fruits. A wonderfully complex beer. Rich, creamy, smooth - all in all, a very pleasant beer. blipp (1632), Newark, New Jersey, USA Feb 23, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is smoked and roasted malt, also a tad sweet. Medium body. Flavor is again smoky and roasted, with some coffee beans and chocolate. This was actually very good.
