Haslinger (640), Syracuse, New York, USA Feb 22, 2008 Pretty much a black pour, one of the darkest I have ever seen. Lots of chocolate taste with a hint of some fruit. Most delicious. One of the best porters I have ever had. Would buy again quickly anders37 (4516), Malmö, Sweden Feb 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours a very dark brown almost black color with a longlasting creamy tan head. Has a fruity roasted malty chocolate aroma. Sweet roasted malty chocolate flavor with some fruity hints of dark fruit. Has a sweetish roasted malty finish with hints of chocolate. MI2CA (1260), Noblesville, Indiana, USA Feb 19, 2008 550ml - Aroma is very malty with molasses, chocolate, vanilla, roasted barley and a touch of hops. Pours black with a medium brown head and good lacing. Flavor matches aroma with the signature SS rusty water taste that fades into a ton of chocolate. Palate is sticky. One of my all time favorites and a classic example of a great porter. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 19, 2008 Very dark pour, nice brown head. Carbonation good throughout. Toasty flavor with a touch of sweet. Roasted barley, malts and a smooth pallet. A little bitterness but good flavor and no lingering aftertaste. Very good Taddy. redgold07 (308), Irving, Texas, USA Feb 17, 2008 Pours almost completely black and opaque with hints of brown, with a large, rising chocolate milk colored head. Aroma is quite malty, of course... roasted chocolate, caramel, and slightly sweet. Flavor is of roasted caramel and chocolate, licorice, dark fruit, slightly bitter, and bready.
1 pt. 2.7 oz. bottle. Lucremon (13), Nova Scotia, Canada Feb 13, 2008 550ml bottle. Pours black-brown with a sandy brown, moderate head. Subdued roasted, malty aroma. Some dusty chocolate on the palate and a medium finish beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Feb 13, 2008 Bottle-Pours black w/a moderate, brown carbonated head. Sweet roasted malt aroma. Solid, if unspectacular Porter, flavors of chocolate, roasted malt, & coffee. Had some carbonation. This one didn’t overwelm me, but it certainly didn’t offend. Very drinkable, but not one I would go out of my way for; seems like a lot of their stuff falls in that area. I’d call it another solid brew from Sam Smith. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Feb 11, 2008 Bottle, pint 6. Intriguingly translucent for such a dark beer. Lots of roasted coffee is what I got out of this. Hints of spice and sweetness, but at the end of the day, lots of roasted coffee. So very classic, and I felt like I was in London pub. My rating may not be through the roof, but I greatly enjoyed the brew for the classic porter that it is.
