natejgood (188), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 27, 2007 Pours a rich brown color with a light brown, thick head. It’s dark enough that not much light gets through, but it’s not black. It has a bit of a dark fruit aroma with a hint of chocolate. The flavor starts out a bit tart but finishes with a rich cocoa and coffee flavor. The ending flavor is very dry. A fairly good beer, but the initial taste throws me off a little bit. ShawnMalloy (119), Auburn, Massachusetts, USA Oct 27, 2007 I wrestled in my sleep the other night dreaming of Samuel Smith’s Taddy Porter. I’d seen it everywhere but have never taken the time to try it out, so eventually the cravings and curiosity soaked into my sub conscious. That’s how I knew that this beer was destiny. With my experience with SS’ Nut Brown, I learned that SS brewing is more simple by nature which was no different in their Taddy Porter. If you expect simple and classic, you’ll receive greatness. What you’ll get is that dark malt flavor that’s always a winner, with an easy to consume sweetness provided by the the brew’s cane sugar. It’s a solid beer in the porter family. luvcasks (178), USA Oct 26, 2007 From the get go... a class act!
Dark brown with garnet tones and a nice tan head which stays and clings to the sides
Aroma: A balancing act of restraint and intensity, dark fruits some dry cocoa and a little wine like
Taste: Starts with a dark roast, some tang, dark figs, some charcoal, a little chocolate and a little nuts.. molasses and a little brown-sugar a veritable cacaphony of dark malt flavors... somehow dancing in unison. all these are balanced by the right amount of hop flavor. The mouth feel is silky and finishes with a lingering dark roast malt without any acridity
Overall: An excellent porter for an English Porter, this is one the classics the other (my favorite - Fullers London Porter)... Not to wax poetic, when fall weather peeks with some clouds and a little cool down... nothing like a lovely porter. sayravai (3720), Helsinki, Finland Oct 26, 2007 (Bottled) Very dark cola brown with a small, but reasonably lasting head head. Mild, licorice-malty aroma with a oatmeal-milky feel. Sour-milky, roasted-malty flavor with sour-salty licorice hints. Medium-bodied, medium-carbonated palate. Either this is a bad bottle, or not my kind of porter. Sourish and surprisingly thin. MrBunn (1520), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 25, 2007 Bottle. Pour is a darkish brown with a two finger head. Aromas are of brown sugar and nuts with a little bit of a port-like air to them. Flavor reminds me of roasted nuts, dark fruit and brown sugar. It came off as a little thin and sugary for my tastes. alari (30), London, Greater London, England Oct 25, 2007 Beautiful strong aroma. Pours heavy and dark with a large head that dissipates somewhat, but remains. Lots and lots of strongly roasted malt. Quite full and complex in the mouth. Quite a dense porter, not at all watery. Pleasant dry aftertaste without being over-hopped. Tasty and powerful with superb balance. fro2218 (466), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 23, 2007 Pours quite dark with a thick head. A lttle too roasted for me when I think of porter but not too bad. oteyj (713), Canterbury, New Hampshire, USA Oct 18, 2007 Pours black with large frothy tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate, coffee, and smoked malt. Very pronounced- could smell it from 3 feet away as soon as I opened the bottle. Flavours of dark chocolate, smokey mat, and plum with smooth filling mouthfeel. A little sweet for my taste- not too much hop definition.
