Pours a beautiful dark dark brown with a small fluffy brown head. Flavor is somewhat bland, somewhat roasty at first with a tad bit of sweetness, then a bitter finish. Medium bodied, a bit thin. Decent beer, but bland like most things from England (except their music). Good from far but far from good. ChainGangGuy (2557), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 10, 2007 Well, I needed something (preferably a beer) to take my mind off the crushing, soulless, fleeting and futile nature of existence, if only for a few brief minutes. That would be nice. So, that’s where the Samuel Smith "The Famous" Taddy Porter (in a brown bottle) came in.
Appearance: Pours a black body with a creamy, light khaki-colored head. No lacing.
Smell: Subtle aroma of toasted toffee with hints of chocolate, nuts, and a slight smokiness.
Taste: A true medley of malt flavors with each sip - coffee, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, molasses. The finish has a soft, light hoppiness to it, but also carries with it a toasted sugar sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Smooth, but a bit watery on the palate.
Drinkability: For me, it could use just a bit more body, but perhaps the current recipe tested better with focus groups. So what do I know? Still, though, its a worthy English porter and exceedingly drinkable. Dedollewaitor (3650), Odense, Denmark

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 4, 2007 Overrated. Smells of yeast and bread and pours a dark brown color with red lacing. Taste is mild and bitter with a bit of roasted taste with malt. Decent but not really your typical porter. theisti (1657), Leawood, Kansas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 4, 2007 550 ml Bottle. Pour is deep brown, with some red highlights, billowing tan head. Aroma is caramel sweetness with some roastiness in the background. Taste is pretty mild, pick up a bit on the sweetness, a touch of hops and roasted coffee. The finish has more of a roast kick to it (almost spiciness). The body of this one was thinner than I was expecting. As the beer warms, the caramel sweetness takes on a sharper edge, and not necessarily in a pleasant way. bboven (103), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA
