May 23, 2007 Pours a blackish brown into the glass with a billowing off white head. The head has some lasting power and gives way to some nice aromatics of chocolate and coffee with some burnt sugar notes as well. The flavor is very rich and has plenty of chocolate malts coming through before changing into an almost sour /sharp finish. A very creamy palate makes this beer a very enjoyable accompaniment with desert or just by itself.

May 20, 2007 initial aroma and flavor of chocolate and something metallic...maybe nickles. as it warmed (almost room temp) it developed a robust malt flavor with burnt coffee and a nice hop bitterness that lingered for a while. seemed to get a little watery after a while but still a nice brew. 2 550ml for $6.00, i’ll buy more.

May 13, 2007 Updated: May 15, 2007550ml clear bottle, $3.59. Aroma is heavy roasted malt and smoke. Small creamy light brown head that was mostly diminishing and left virtually no lace. Murky dark red/black body. Flavor starts sweet and turns bitter for a short finish. Palate is light/medium and watery with a soft carbonation. Good smoky flavor and aroma but very one dimensional. Stone smoked porter is a better choice.

May 12, 2007 Updated: Nov 2, 2007Stronger aroma then the other Smiths i’ve had. Smells more chocalate and then its tastes. Roastly flavor is there with a touch of sweetness, maybe some fruityness. Grows a nice thick head in a pour. Nice dark color like a cola. Enjoyable nice porter, wish it was a little stronger alcohol %.

May 1, 2007 Rather weak aroma. Otherwise, close to perfect! Lovely balance of malt and hops. Dry, tasting of roasted coffe, cocoa and biscuits. Long, lovely dry and bitter aftertaste.
