akaufman (16), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 15, 2007 gold standard in porfter category. carbonated with lighter mouth feel. lower in alcohol compared to pac nw bombers. very dank taste nearbeer (1833), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 12, 2007 Updated: Jun 11, 2007Opaque, eight-ball color with a brown, medium head that tries to linger. Aroma is peppery mild-smoked bacon, gun-metal, wild grass, and molasses. Taste is fairly neutral and smooth; a little malt on the front with some light smoke flavor and nice hoppy dryness gradually taking over. Aftertaste is tingly hop and a hint of dark fruit-smoked malt, and after a while the inevitable coffee flavor. Mouthfeel is light-medium and tends toward a nice smoothness. Very well-balanced, with light flavor nuances, and highly drinkable for an industrial brew. 17thfloor (1402), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 5, 2007 Updated: Dec 12, 2008[rerate] Pours a very dark red/brown. Huge vinous nutty dark brown sugar aroma. First taste follows the aroma... nutty, vinous and very buttery with lots of dark brown sugar. Finishes a tad burnt with some nice roasted coffee. Medium body, kind of a grainy feeling in the mouth. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 4, 2007 Pours a pitch black with a tan head. Perplexing wine-like aroma. Tastes slightly smoky, molasses, dark fruit, grapes (wine), hardly any hopping. Thin body, low carbonation. Everybody here seems to like it, so I may have a lemon, but for the moment, I’m not too impressed. This is the second Samuel Smith beer I’ve tasted, and neither of them have been particularly interesting. The wine flavour in this one is puzzling and the body is a disappointment. sspc (17), Texas, USA Apr 3, 2007 light nose with smoke and roasted notes, it tastes lightly sweet with roast, smoke and light chocolate, and a great bitterness. it is medium body. the finish on the beer is great. mrdeath5493 (108), Arkansas, USA Apr 2, 2007 Pours dark with a light tan head. Sweet smell of dark malt. Slightly sweet, with a mild tanginess that goes nice with the profile of the porter. Dry finish. Very satisfying. scotty (828), Scotland Mar 26, 2007 Dark....VERY dark! The centimetre thick off white head is so tight and lasts well down the glass. Coffee and roast malts dominate the nose which is to be expected I suppose. Flavourwise, roast malt again to the fore, this is so smooth and rich, with a dry edge to the finish.Satisfying stuff! Brewosk (137), Illinois, USA Mar 25, 2007 Just a super drinkable porter. Nice hoppiness with good chocolate a coffee flavours
