Gr0ve (1382), Oslo, Norway Feb 12, 2007 355 ml bottle. Black with a ruby red hue. Tall creamy beige head with some larger bubbles. Milky roasted malt aroma. Cacao powder. Distant clean hops. Typical Samuel Smith house character. Slightly nutty and oxidization flavours. Green eating grapes. Soft roasted malts. Smooth texture with a slightly powdery dry aftertaste. Medium-bodied. Some sourish notes in the finish, likely from the roasted malts. A little hop bitterness as well. Great porter. fatpaul (11), Berlin, Wisconsin, USA Feb 11, 2007 Pour is a dark brown with white head. Not much aroma, but it was of roasted hops. Very smooth and creamy porter. it’s taste only got better the further I got into the bottle. No bitterness, though unusual for a porter, made for a nice change. An amazing beer. wernesgruner (45), USA Feb 10, 2007 pours smooth small tan head, taste is malty and choclaty, the after taste is malty and spicy. exceptional beer
Maria (6056), Thisted, Denmark Feb 8, 2007 It’s a black beer with a huge, creamy head. The aroma has notes of dark roasted malt and chocolate. The bitterness is limited, but is there, mostly from the malt I think. I like it, but it might have more complexity. I prefer the Oatmeal stout and Imperial Stout from this brewery. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Feb 7, 2007 Updated: Jul 13, 2007Dark mahogany colored brew with rich toasty aroma. Other reviewers called this a ’thin’ but I find it easier to drink and more digestible than many other heavier porters and stouts that most here on this site of higher value. I recommend this heartily. flemmingwillum (226), København S, Denmark Feb 7, 2007 Nice black appearance, the head dissapears a little quickly, though. The aroma is chocolate, some banana, and maybe with a metallic note. And not very powerful, to be mentioned. The flavor has banana, some chocolate, sourishness, and a nice smokey aftertaste. This beer is way to watery, and dry for a porter.
I don’t know what it is whit these english porters, but to me they all seem way too watery, flat, and boring. I just can’t get used to them. Like this one, Fuller’s London Porter also got a medium rating instead of the good average-rating it should have according to all you other beer-fanatics. When you have tasted a good and smokey baltic porter like Thisted Limfjordsporter, this seems like macrobrew. I’m sorry, but it’s not that great. Juancho (225), Clearwater Beach, Georgia, USA Feb 7, 2007 Great example of a classic English porter. Refined in every way, but also substantial and compelling. It’s toastier tasting than any other beer in their range... and so i like it more.
Cheers. JAF737300 (791), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 4, 2007 This is an outstanding stout. It has a full flavor with deep rich complexities. This is a MUST try for stout lovers.
