550 ml bottle into imperial pint glass, bottled on 4/13/2012. Pours crystal clear dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toast, molasses, brown bread, raisin, light roasted malt, earth, and light herbal hops. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity; fairly light on strength. Taste of chocolate, caramel, roasted malt, toast, toffee, molasses, light coffee, brown bread, raisin, light nuttiness, earth, and herbal hops. Light earthy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, toast, toffee, roasted malt, light coffee, brown bread, raisin, earth, and herbal on the finish for a bit. Very nice balance of nicely robust flavors with good complexity; and zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and smooth mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very nice English porter. Very nice robustness and balance of flavors; and extremely smooth to drink. A very enjoyable offering as expected.

It pours black with a small tan head. It has a roasted aroma and also a bread, chocolate and caramel aroma. I taste chocolate, bread, caramel and coffee. This is a very good beer. I’m glad that I bought this one and intend to buy more from this brewery in the future.

Splendida questa porter della Samuel Smiths. Nera, schiuma marrone e cremosa. Sapore di malto tostato e cioccolato ma non amaro come altre birre simili, molto intenso. Assolutamente da provare tra quelle del genere.

bastarda (140) - Freiburg, GERMANY - FEB 6, 2015
aromas of bitter chocolate and blackcurrants, when warming some dried banana/vanilla bean hints, fragrant willamette hops as well; milk chocolate taste, herbal aspects, some fennel seeds, some dark caramel, all not the least cloying, silky mouthfeel without being brewed with oats. Subtle fadeout of this thoroughly balanced, outstanding porter!

550ml bottle. Aroma was nice and roasty. Dark black appearance, with a little tan head. Lots of flavor, but clean w/little to no hop character. Full bodied. Overall, a great example of a porter.

(Samuel Smiths Taddy Porter) Bottle 355 ml at home, served into a snifter, ABV 5% Dark brown colour on the body with deep red ruby shades where light manages to pass through. A bit taller than one finger tan head, thick and creamy, with good retention, leaving light lacing on the glass. Great aroma, chocolate, fruits, hops, port wine. Taste follows, light caramel, chocolate, molasses, port wine, coal on the finish and roasted malts. Medium body, good notable carbonation. Very good and especially for such a low alcohol beer.
