pours black, clear, with ruby showing through the edges. Aroma is caramel and raisins, stone fruit. Flavors are toastier, with just a bit of roasted malt, coffee, and baking chocolate with a bit of raisin. Delightfully complex.

Bottle. Pitch black, with a large, frothy, tan head that refuses to fully dissipate. The nose is bittersweet chocolate, light coffee, toasted oak, with some caramel and anise. Nice, sweet and roasty flavor, with a nice touch of bitterness in the finish that keeps it from being cloying. Medium body, creamy, a little thin, and lightly acidic. This is a well balanced, flavorful and easy porter. Not overly complex, thick, or aggressive, but quietly tasty.

Large light brown foam which holds very long. Lovely aroma of roasted malt and English licorice. Tasting notes is English licorice, roasted malt and only a discreet hop aftertaste reflects quite how I think a porter should have tasted in London at the time. I think it is an experience that everyone should try.

Bottle from BevMo! in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is roasted malts, soy sauce, something tinny and smoky things. Taste is similar but thins out a bit too much. Like others have mentioned, this is lacking depth.

The Cannery Row Beer Club enjoyed this. We enjoyed this although thought there could be a little fuller in taste. Cheers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
